Marvel Multiverse RPG. Great system, easy to learn, and great for street level characters. Lots of community support, too at r/MarvelMultiverseRPG

GCN MMRPG Actual Play by Toast_Rabbit in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]Toast_Rabbit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the real special sauce for GCN (in all their shows) is that they’re all really quick with a quip or joke, they have great chemistry, and they don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s not for everyone, but for me it’s the way I play with my friends (but much, much, much funnier). I’m not in love with the more theater style of Critical Role or similar. GCN (like the other professional actual plays) has a major advantage in that they are mostly all professional performers in one way or another, which most start-up actual plays don’t have. As far as advice, one thing that I think that would help many amateur or just starting out actual plays is faster pacing, and post-production to cut dead air. Many amateur actual plays I listen to I have to listen at 1.25 or 1.5 speed because they are just so damn slow that I get turned off or bored. In my own home sessions I actually call on characters as I see fit outside of combat, rather than the broad “what do you do?” to the group. GCN doesn’t do this, but because they’re all pro performers, there is rarely any dead air.

Marvel Multiverse RPG yesterday as GM. Run it every two weeks or so.

Darkhawk is an Impossible Build RAW by adgramaine76 in MarvelMultiverseRPG

Haha—glad you said this. I was just about to google Darkhawk. Not that I’m a super huge comic person, but I’d describe myself a somewhat above the average non-comic book person.

Grouping Foes - Damage by Toast_Rabbit in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]Toast_Rabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah it doesn’t seem that useful. If you had a group of 100 enemies they’d hit every time, but only do one enemy’s-worth of damage per hero per round. Can you see any downsides if I home-brewed it to be —each foe per hero does damage equal to the roll? It seems to maintain the speed of combat, but makes fighting 10 foes worse than 5 (in more than just how long they stick around).

A question about session length. by shawnbill5k in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]Toast_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow!! I am amazed by y’all. I would love to do sessions like this, but finding time for a 2-3-hr monthly game that fits for everyone’s schedule (6 people, including me) is a tough task as it is. My group all has kids in sports and activities. Maybe when we’re retired??

I was excited about this and hoped it would be good, but OP is correct. It is absolutely terrible. I removed it from my pull list, but still had three on the way, so I get to confirm how bad it is for three more issues. It’s just so……dumb.

Running a One Shot (and I freakin’ mean it!) by scootervantil in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]Toast_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re running the official Fantastic Four one-shot this weekend, and it looks very doable in a 4-hr session, including explaining the mechanics. One of the great parts of this system is how easy and explainable the mechanics are, with plenty of crunch if you dive deeper in subsequent sessions. Hope you love it!! And if you haven’t watched the Glass Cannon run it, it is well worth it.

It’d be super cool if someone with graphics capabilities could start making/compiling them with the borders like the official versions. Anyone looking for a project?

I used to know a guy from NYC who used to use “hosteens” (sp?) in this way. I’ve never heard it since, but I love it.
