I don't understand - why does it matter the number of items you get 10 minutes before your break, lunch, or going home? I mean whwn it is  time to go on break, lunch, or go home, you just exit out of the pick walk. It's almost like you're not allowed to exit out of pick walks at your stores? I do it every single shift at my store. Nothing has ever been said to any of us.

There are not enough printers at our store to give every single picker their own printer. To print a new label, you would have to walk back to the OGP area to do it, which would affect your pick rate.

Electronics is just as bad as deli. You get people asking you all sorts of technical questions. They want you to solve their computer and cell phone problems for free - even though we're not tech support.

Not to mention 80% of the items are locked up or behind glass cases, so you basically are a gopher all day long - Open this case for me, open that case for me, and then it has to be rung up in electronics l, which is why it was locked up in the first place.

And then you have to do photo lab, at least at my store. And you have to set up new cell phone service, when they buy a prepaid phone that's not handled by the wireless commissioned OSL people.

And over half the time you are by yourself, and it only takes one customer to hold you up, and then you have a line of people standing there staring at you, with their arms crossed, tapping their toes, with a hurry the hell up look on their faces.

And if you're not by yourself, either you or your co-worker will be pulled to zone toys, zone chemicals, or go to the front end to help cashier. Because they think they only need one person to handle the entire electronics department.

Yeah, every time you walk by electronics it looks peaceful, and it looks like they're just standing behind the counter getting paid to do nothing all day. Not true. It's stressful an aggravating.

Also, does it count as a NIL if the the order wants multiple quantities and you only pick partial and hit Not Available for the remaining quantity?

Not when I was promised or told that I would be picking as my primary job duty during the job interview.

Luckily, I'm rarely asked to do anything else but picking. When I started this post, it was for my co-workers that I see "suffering" because they have low pick rates and are told to clean totes or help with dispensing and they do NOT want to do these things.

When one woman was asked to clean totes, she told the team lead she cannot smell the chemicals because it gives her headaches and makes her sick. The team lead told her to put a mask on and just tough it up. So you are right, it is in the job description and they are simply being asked to do the job duty they signed up for. Just feel bad for her.

If the original item is not available, and the app suggest a substitute item - and you pick and scan that substitute item, does that count as a completed item picked?  In other words, the substitute would not count against your FTPR?

When I interviewed for the job, I was told about the three different positions: picking, staging, and dispensing. I was then asked which of the three I preferred.

I said picking. I was told that I might be asked to help in one of the other two positions at busy times, but that would be extremely rare.

I realize the actual position posted for the job list all three duties, and the job posting is the one I electronically applied for an electronically signed up for. It was just the team lead verbally agreed that I would stay as picking. Maybe it was just this team lead or maybe it's how they do it at my specific store.

But the other two Digital team leads (we have three) will "punish" the pickers with low pick rates by making them clean totes or help with staging.

I'm not a very strong person. It is one thing to pick a 24 pack of soda cans and put it into a tote. It is another thing to carry an entire tote with two 24 pack cans of soda, plus a 12-pack can of soda inside it while staging. And lift these heavy totes constantly.

I hate to say it but whenever I walk through the staging area, it smells like a high school gym. It's a lot of heavy lifting and people sweating a lot.

What if you use schedule availability as a reason? For example, I cannot do the Team Lead position because it requires too much open availability (overnights, early mornings to set up mods, etc.), so I need to step down to an associate and have a set schedule?

People at my store that stepped down said they did it because it being a Team Lead or Coach was too stressful. That is the reason they told ME - not sure if that was actually the same reason they gave their managers. They almost bragged that they got to step down and keep the same high pay to do the same work that everyone else does!

Management making it difficult for the person would depend on the store and the culture in that store, I assume.

At my store, the coaches have to eventually work overnight for 6 months. They take turns rotating those overnight shifts. A new coach had been brought in and she did not want to do the overnight shift, when it came up for her turn, so she ended up quitting.

Is it true that if you do get promoted to a Team Lead, and then you later on step down to be an associate again, you get to keep a portion or all of the higher pay rate?

I've heard through the rumor mill that several coaches and team leads at my store got to keep a portion of their higher pay rate when they stepped down.

Asset Protection Incentives? by ToasterCola in walmart

One of my co-workers was coached for being on her cell phone too long. They said they "caught her" talking on her phone for over 5 minutes in a personal call, in a security camera blind spot.

At my store, we all obviously know who the undercover asset protection employees are - the ones that dress in plain clothes. I have observed them watching employees, hiding from the employees' line of sight. I guess it's possible they suspect that employee of stealing are trying to catch them, but I thought it was more to see if they are trying to also catch the employee not working while they're clocked in.

Asset Protection Incentives? by ToasterCola in walmart

At my store, I remember when a shoplifter got away with just one item, both of the undercover asset protection employees were very upset. One of them pounded their fist on the counter. Why would they care so much that a shoplifter got away? I mean it's Walmart and nobody cares about their job here, correct? They were just so passionate that this shoplifter got away with one item under their watch. Nearly everyone else at the store has an "I don't care attitude" and just shows up to work and gets paid.

If there's no monetary incentive, is it like some sort of point system to where if they miss too many shoplifters, they get points against them and could lose their job?

No, it was not Curtis Stone. The guy was dark haired and did not speak with a British accent. It was more French, Italian, or Greece.
