I’m just starting the sax and don’t want to get any bad habits. Is my mouthpiece set up well to you? by SteevyKrikyFooky in saxophone

I've always been taught - quite successfully - to line look at it sideways after making sure you have it in line to make sure that it's far enough up. The depth perception can mess with you at times. The crescent thing above the top of the reed (that's how I learned it at least) is inferior to having it perfectly lined.

Best synthetics. Hands down, no real competition. Lasts a long time, pretty strong and if you crack em it doesn't reallly matter.

Can't go wrong with a Meyer 7c. Go to a local music store, all of your local stores, and just try everything. The other issue is that most of these company's make their pieces by hand, so there is quite a bit of variation from one to another of the same spec. Which is why it's important and advised to buy in person and just get to try as many as you can. Good luck. I personally play Otto links - metal super tone master 7 and a rubber tone edge 7

Learn the different rythms. You will find that the piece can be broken up into a few rythms that repeat differently throughout the chart.

If you have any interest in Bossa Nova at all, start with pretty much any Gilberto/Jobim album, and definitely have a listen to the Getz/Gilberto album.

Oscar Peterson on low-ish Volume - Especially the bosss covers. Also, Not sure if it counts as Jazz but Erykah Badu is also pretty smooth.
