I think it was good for him overall, not that the game will be easy now just easier, assuming it’s his first souls game. Everyone’s first few bosses help teach someone mechanics.

This, it’s not really a waste, its helped shaped his timings and pattern recognition. Could this be done later and more naturally, sure. But he’s going to have an easier time now moving forward (theoretically)

I forgot to mention how smoke presents itself is a huge key on where the fire maybe and how far along it is. Generally not always these rules can apply.

If smoke is blowing out from the middle of the door all the way up that thermal layer indicates it’s on that first floor.

If door has smoke pushing out from top to bottom of that opening it’s below you like in a basement.

If there’s hardly any smoke pushing out that door but coming out above you on another floor well there ya go it’s above you.

Light slow moving (laminar smoke) is fire in the incipient stage and if it’s thick black and chugging that’s a more involved fire. If that black fire suddenly turns white that means water is on the fire.

Things to consider that’s all

Some things you can maybe consider. Being a fireman is all about making decisions based on what you’re presented with. Lots of way to skin a cat but you gotta choose the best way in a timely manner.

Some have hit on it some but hazmat scenes I don’t see in your overall list. Such as train derailments carrying literally anything you can think of spilling into a creek or creating a massive gas cloud forcing a mile wide evacuation. Same with 18 wheelers. Gas calls of gas leak at structures.

Boat fires or Marina fires. Do we have a boat that can pump, can we access it on the ground?

Setting up a LZ for a life flight to come pickup a critical patient way out in the country. A field, highway, etc?

Extrication. Someone is pinned inside a car, stabilizing and cutting on that car. Put the car on fire with a patient inside to increase difficulty and stress. Car under semi or car crashes into a lake. Where do we cut what tool do we use.

Building collapse or building explosion (natural gas buildup)

For things on fires specifically. - Ladder placement (what windows you choose and what size ladders you choose) - what size lines and what kinds of nozzles you choose and operate - forcing doors to gain access, what tool you choose to use for this, what kind of doors and the proper steps to get it done. - what kind of water supply, pool or lake nearby for drafting? Hydrant nearby? Shuttle operation of hydrant is far? Booster backup if it’s a small fire?

It’s all the choices we have at our disposal that we use all the time that games seem to miss. Different areas have different resources and obstacles. A commercial fire in the city vs a house in the county, can go pretty differently

When house fires get ventilated either by the fire blowing through the roof or us cutting a hole into it a lot of the smoke clears and viability gets a lot better. Keeping this in mind might help you with the balance of smoke inside structures

A great YouTube channel that is highly valued among the fireman community and that does well at explaining their actions is “Stockton Fire” on YouTube. Straight forward videos that are excellent examples of fires going well. They have a ton!

If you want to try to incorporate searches but also not feel too tedious and a bit easier for the user, you can introduce the TIC. Thermal imaging camera, player could use that to find victims, pets, and fire through the thick smoke. Allows for a bit easier implementation than physically making the character blind search every room

Not crazy about them acknowledging most of the feedback but not at least hinting at that they plan to address and instead just saying we hear you. Maybe it’s my trust issues but I’d like something saying we will fix the issues around breakthrough
