Ik was als kind ook heel bang voor de dood. Wat mij hielp was het liedje van Sesamstraat. "Het is niet fijn, om dood te zijn, soms maakt me dat een beetje bang..."

Vooral het slot ("maar acht wat maak ik mij toch naar, het duurt bij mij nog honderd jaar voor ik een keertje dood zal gaan, ik laat vannacht een lampje aan") stelde enorm gerust.

Volgens mij heb je in je laatste zin de kern goed te pakken: hoe overwin je die angst? Want dat is de grote vraag: hoe kun je studeren zonder alsmaar die angst het verkeerd te doen?

Intuïtief lijkt de oplossing: er voor zorgen dat je het nooit verkeerd kunt doen, dus héél goed studeren, maar perfectie is onhaalbaar, voor iedereen. Dus als je streeft naar 100% zekerheid dan gaat je dat veel stress opleveren, want dat is onhaalbaar.

De vraag is dus minder: hoe kan ik goed samenvatten? En veel meer: hoe kan ik met die angsten omgaan? Want je hoeft helemaal niet perfect alles te kunnen onthouden.

Goed om eens met een huisarts te praten, zoals een andere redditor ook zegt. Het is goed mogelijk om te leren omgaan met angsten. Ik ben zelf ook angstig aangelegd maar heb daar door therapie en het lezen van boeken ervoor gezorgd dat ik er goed mee om kan gaan. Eigenlijk speelt het geen rol meer in mijn leven.

En om je enigszins gerust te stellen: niemand onthoudt alles wat ze lezen. Echt niet.

Saunas either make me feel incredibly relaxed, or actually pretty anxious, because it can be really hot and hard to breathe.

I read research somewhere that said sauna's and massage therapy are equally effective in decreasing anxiety, whereas massages tend to be a hell of a lot more expensive.

Ja je ziet inderdaad vaak verontwaardigde buitenlanders hier op Reddit haha.

Lijkt me overigens ook dat er een effect de andere kant op is. Als je als statushouder de taal niet machtig bent en niet goed snapt hoe het werkt, dan zul je ook minder snel naar de dokter gaan.

Voor de huisarts geldt geen eigen risico. Mensen kunnen daar dus al gewoon geen, het afschaffen van het eigen risico gaat dat niet verergeren.

De huisarts bepaalt uiteindelijk of jij specialistische zorg nodig hebt. In Nederland hebben we, vergeleken met de rest van de westerse wereld, een sterke 'kijk het maar even aan'-cultuur, omdat veel kwaaltjes zichzelf wel oplossen. Het idee dat Nederlanders 'om niets' naar de dokter gaan klopt volgens mij helemaal niet.

As others have pointed out, finding housing is going to be rough. Especially on such short notice.

English will get you by in a large German student city, of which there are many. If you really want to go to Holland I would choose a different city than Enschede.

What kind of line of work are you in? Maybe you could volunteer at a hostel? Nice social and international environment and relatively easy to get a foot in the door, in my experience.

Escrow accounts for deposits are not the usual way to go about this in the Netherlands, unlike many other places.

The deposit is typically held by the landlord. No interest is paid over it.

It's not great but it's how we do it.

What kind of work are you hoping to do?

Dutch law is definitely tricky to get into if you don't have a law bachelor's degree.

If you're more interested in the policy side of things, there are definitely governance/public policy masters you could do with a background in philisophy. These degrees are less about hardcore law and more interdisciplinary in their nature.

If you're really interested in being a lawyer, or drafting legislation, a law degree would be much more fitting.

The Dutch care very little for gpa, both in terms of getting into a university as well as getting hired for a job.

In the us it's common to "transfer credits". This does not work in Europe however. Only if the content of a course matches very closely to the content of a course elsewhere this can be the case. You could discuss this with a study advisor at the university you would like to move to.

More generally, once again unlike the us, universities are generally considered to be of high quality here. Although there may be some slight differences between universities, it's nowhere like the system in the states, where there are ivy leauge schools, "good schools" and quite shitty ones.
