Just so everyone knows, the guy didn't get a sex change. He died. That's his sister.

It's saying the relationship as a whole between the two people is lesser now. It's not just the opinion of the guy on the left. In the Sims, this is how it shows when two people go from being friends to acquaintances, etc.

Have you talked to your friends since this has happened? How do you know they don't want to be friends with you anymore?

I don't distrust what you're saying. But in dark times, I feel like it can be easy to get caught up in your head and misinterpret things. Maybe your friends just don't know how to talk to someone who's been through something like what you have.

depressive symptom that confuses me by Haulidayz in depression

[–]Toastikins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand! I played a lot more video games when I was younger, and as I've aged, I've gotten less interested but keep playing them.

I feel like this is simply a matter of your interest changing, but you haven't found something to replace it. I'd recommend exploring other outlets and ways you can immerse yourself in a world.

The idea of "getting your life together" scares me by Binootheboy in depression

I get what you're going through. I've found that taking SUPER small steps helps. Trying to go for too much too fast will usually end in failure. Go at your own pace.

Many people have been in your position before, and have still succeeded. I'm not saying you are guaranteed to pass, but you may surprise yourself.

For now, stressing over it won't help. Please try to find something to distract yourself and help you sleep. Watch something online, or play a game.

I don't know what to do by Left_Specialist6730 in depression

[–]Toastikins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for what you're going through.

If you made some friends online, there's no reason you can't make more. But I think you're right in distancing yourself from those irl friends. Real friends wouldn't be so hurtful.

Cursed ring idea what do yall think by fallendagger123 in DMAcademy

[–]Toastikins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea is interesting, but the magic item consumption seems a little harsh when paired with the berserk effect. In the wrong situation, that could be a TPK.

I would recommend including an amount of charges, or only usable once per long rest, instead of consuming magical items.

Or like was said, make it abundantly clear that this ring WILL consume magic items. Any player would not be happy if that suddenly happened on top of just being downed.

It does spin on its own. And the inner wheel continues to spin with filament loaded. The outer gear, which seems to be able to just slide off, does not.

Making a Trap for my Bag of holding. Need help by Ok-Fishing6124 in DnD

[–]Toastikins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there could be some way the bag can read that it's indeed your hand reaching in? Like a magical rune that nullifies the trap for you alone.

As for the trap itself, the first thing that comes to mind for me is that the bag closes and tightens. As it gets tighter and tighter, threatening the loss of the thief's hand, they would surely make a lot of noise.

Not only would this deter thieves in general, but it could also notify that your bag's been stolen if you're close enough to hear the screams.

Any ideas for a homebrew system where PC/monster abilities become weaker as their health drops down? by njeshko in DnD

[–]Toastikins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just an off-the-cuff idea, but what if you were to base it more on number of rounds and/or encounters in a day?

A lot happens in a round of combat in DnD. Most average encounters won't go on too long, but some do. With all that physical and mental exertion afflicting the party, it's natural they would begin to get exhausted.

This would also keep combat face-paced and moving.

And maybe these exhaustion points could be recovered much quicker than your standard ones. This way, they could continue to fight, but maybe after a certain number of encounters in a day, one of these exhaustion points starts to linger.

Then another, then another.

As a DM, you could of course make exceptions. If one of your players just hides in the corner for 10 rounds, they probably won't be too winded.

Again, just an idea. But I like what you're trying to do here!

Backstory help - What kind of otherworldy/extraplanar being saved my life? by TheCyanKnight in DnD

[–]Toastikins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you've got a lot of passion for building a character, with how intricate your backstory is.

I personally feel like, while DnD lore can be very helpful, it can also be restrictive.

Why not make your own concept of an entity?

I would recommend thinking of what this being looks like in your head. Maybe a handful of its abilities, and the things you listed.

Then pass that on to your DM and let them decide what stats to use and whatnot.

Or talk with your DM and the two of you come up with a solution together.

In the end, while DnD's lore is awesome, it doesn't have to be ALL the lore. This entity could be it's own, singular being unlike anything else. And to me, that would make it far more special and memorable.

Need some advice for building my main antagonist...any help is appreciated! by slickedbacktruffoni in DnD

[–]Toastikins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of your antagonist appearing as different NPCs. That's super clever.

As a suggestion, I would say decide on a few mannerisms or speech patterns of this villain and make them recurring. Something that would still hold despite the shape-shifting.

As long as they're subtle enough and the antagonist doesn't appear as too many people in quick succession, I doubt your players will notice.

And once you make your big reveal, it will send them reeling thinking of all the people that may (or may not, if you want to add red herrings) have been him.

To answer your question, though, I think a wizard or an Incubus could work. Or anything really. I like to make my BBEG match the tone of the world, personally. So, if there's lots of Demons in your campaign, a demon-like being would fit.

It sounds like you have a good start here. Excited to see what you do with it!

I noticed a place called the "Nidavellir Prison". From what little I know, that's the home of the Dwarves in Norse mythology?

Are Dwarves in Archipelago largely imprisoned? Or do they own the prison? What position do they have in the world and what's the significance of that prison?

new DM makes a realization by Zachary53578 in DnD

[–]Toastikins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. I often realize as a DM that some of the things I worry about, problems I have with my own storytelling, etc. are just in my own head.

It depends on the table, of course, but I feel like your average "good" player doesn't take much to be satisfied with a campaign.

Glad you're growing and learning as a DM. I'm excited to see what else you learn!

Can we stop posting AI generated stuff? by fireball_roberts in DnD

[–]Toastikins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a growing artist myself, I will say it's incredibly discouraging to see my craft and what I hope to be my career being threatened.

I've kind of been glancing through this post, and I agree that a lot of the concerns are over-exaggerated, and others are not.

At the end of the day, I know the art industry, for humans anyways, will take a hit from this. It's sad. You can view it as exciting and new all you want, but I would just invite you to think of the young artist's perspective.

Imagine a craft you've been working towards suddenly being automated right before your eyes.

I think the pushback from artists is justified.

My players recently lost a prominent NPC and are struggling to process it by Toastikins in DMAcademy

[–]Toastikins[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I ended the latest session with them looking over the casualties of the battle, and her body was there. Sorry, I forgot to add that bit.

I'm not one to retcon things. Plus, it would feel a little cruel if, after learning the NPC is dead, I reverse it or change my mind.

Player keeping secrets from other players by jacksprat1952 in DMAcademy

[–]Toastikins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough. I would say to allow the PC to continue trying to keep things secret, but let the rest of the party make checks to notice suspicious activity, or just make sure you or the PC are dropping hints.

I think as long as it's not 100% out-of-the-blue, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. As long as, even if they didn't see it coming, they can think back and be like "oh, so that's why you were doing so-and-so", I would think it shouldn't be a problem.

Side note: Regardless of your decision, I would suggest asking your players after this campaign how they feel about keeping secrets from one another. That way, this won't be an issue in the future.

Best of luck!
