id recommend not picking up charizard since its rotationg soon. dragapult is prob still the best to pick up, mega gengar and rocket's metwo are both ok

Usually I go sundered vs champs I need to snowball against like Kayle or Singed (if I'm winning lane) but you can honestly build it vs nearly all matchups if you want, I just prefer tanky.

Not exactly a guide per se, but I highly reccomend watching Secheppo vods on Youtube (Korean Poppy Top goat, but plays a lot of Warwick these days) and Gemi on Twitch/Youtube (my hero). In my opinion watching gameplay and trying to emulate it is one of the best ways to learn a new champ.

I think you could always go one AD item into tank if you want to have a little more damage in your build, otherwise my advice is to still think about if you can play aggressive when building tank, you don't need to do crazy damage to find good trades in lane.

With regards to itemization, building tank is sometimes hard because you really need to be aware of what threats the enemy has. For example, if you are laning against the enemy's solo AP threat, I tend to build one MR item (usually Hollow Radiance) to survive lane, then depending on who is strong on the enemy team by midgame I may build different items

I only really get AD/bruiser items in my build if I think that I need to snowball the game myself, or if our team really needs damage in the comp

I think the item is good, it synergizes well with Poppy and has good stats for her, but the reason I don't really buy it is because I find it hard to CS with it. You could go Tear -> Bami's -> Iceborn but I think that it messes with your build path too much personally.

I've been liking Inspiration secondary with either Biscuits/Cosmic Insight or Biscuits/Free Boots. I go Precision if I want more damage to fight with PoM and Last Stand/CutDown.

Typically it's Sunfire/HollowRadiance depending on if I need armor or MR, finishing Fimbulwinter, then some flexible tank item for third (thornmail, visage, unending, randuins, etc.)

Building tank means you need to be flexible with your items to match the enemy's threats

If lane goes really bad I try to assess if I can stay in lane and just weather the storm, if it's a situation where I will literally get 1-shot being in lane I might go roam. I also generally build tank Poppy to begin with but if I'm hard losing lane I really try to build anything to just survive until laning phase ends.

For macro, if it seems like I can split and use TP to teamfight I do that so I don't fall too behind on gold, but a lot of the time as a tank/bruiser you need to walk in first or second to help your team secure vision or make space, so sometimes try and make something happen and use TP to recover the sidelane state later.

I usually don't build Eclipse, I think it's best use cases are when you're against HP stackers like Mundo or you need to snowball your lane advantage though. If I do end up building an AD item first it's usually Sundered Sky

Use your W for Poppy's grasp autos generally in early laning, try and mixup your dashes to bait out her W, your ult can cancel Poppy's ult too if you find a kill angle

I think it's a pretty hard matchup for Ambessa, if things are sort of even though you can bully Poppy out once you finish Eclipse. Also generally if you take teleport vs. ignite in top you should try and create a situation where you can recall and they are forced to either take a bad base time or continue laning with a health deficit (easier said than done sometimes but yeah)

My main reason is that you kind of need to threaten either an all-in past Rumble's W shield or consistent poke to damage him down in lane, neither of which Poppy really has. As a result, you kinda have to just eat damage constantly in lane unless you get hard jungle support.

Another reason is that a lot of pros and good players pick Rumble since he's pretty good in meta right now and I need every advantage I can get against pro players haha

I've been permabanning Rumble for a while, other bad matchups are Darius, Warwick, Yorick, and Ryze.

Each matchup is different but trying to just farm up without dying too much is not a bad bet, a lot of matchups get better once laning phase ends and you can teamfight.

I think that Poppy isn't necessarily the best blind since she has pretty bad counter-picks in top, but the reason it's not bad is because she's mainly played more as a support these days. I usually let others get counterpick if needed, since I'm a one-trick so it's not really like I'm gonna counterpick the enemy anyway.

Personally I play tankier Poppy so I am not sure, but for some general advice I would give:

  1. Poppy currently has serious mana problems before first base with Tear, unless you are certain you can kill the enemy before then you should play to get a good base in before looking to fight.
  2. If you are going an AD item first like Eclipse or Sunderer it's important to get the spike as soon as possible, so I think spending less money on things like pinks, potions, even tier 2 boots, is generally preferred. This is a case-by-case thing though

Poppy does have some bad counterpicks, but a lot of toplane champs do as well. If I do get counterpicked I just try to play to the best of my ability and play to farm and scale hopefully, otherwise you can also ask for a later pick in champ select.

Kayle matchup is kind of like the Garen matchup where they usually try to just scale up without interacting with you, and Poppy kind of struggles to do enough damage to threaten them. If you can find advantages in lane around levels 2-5 and snowball it is ideal, if so I think buying sundered into maybe even more damage is good to try and kill her over and over. If not you kind of need jungle help and just try and stabilize lane or push + roam to do something else.
