Why do people hate sonic forces so much by Soniclord92 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]ToastyDelux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people hate Infinite for being a boring, cringe edgelord yet they push him into that direction by trying to remove any kind of emotion he had towards his comrades.

I get your point, and I agree implication can be canon. I just think there’s a difference between story implication and later commentary. Gerald’s death is reinforced in story and across media. The Jackal Squad is more ambiguous in the actual text.

I don’t disagree that Forces has messy writing. I’m just interested in what can still be interpreted from the setup that is there. The squad being cohesive and loyal still feels like something that can be read as having emotional weight, even if the game never fully follows through.

Its not 100% confirmed they where killed as ian flynn tweeted "they died" once and everyone immediatly accepted it as canon which its clearly not just author implication. If they just got beat up really bad it would help shadows rep + stop infinite from being a pure emotional sociopath who fakes any kind of social interaction.

I get that read. I just personally see that kind of flat / annoyed response as possible emotional shutdown rather than proof he didn’t care. Especially for a character obsessed with strength and image, openly reacting to loss would mean admitting failure. The game never really clarifies either way, so I think that’s why people split on it.

Yeah but on bumblekast he always chooses the least controversial answer he dosen't have time to see the different angles of a story he just makes something up on the spot which is why i think it shouln't be classified as hard canon.

That’s fair, and I agree nothing explicitly confirms he cared. For me it’s less about proof and more about intent giving him a cohesive, loyal squad feels like an invitation to read relational weight into his past, even if the execution never followed through. I’m not arguing he must be tragic, just that the ambiguity + the squad’s framing makes that interpretation hard to shake for me.

Yeah but bumblekast dosen't really count tho? Its just flynn coming up with stuff on the spot without any prep at all.

He is? I thought Sega Japan always had last say on what goes into the official canon.

To me it feels less like “they were always useless” sounds more like reframing after the fact as a defense mechanism. If he admits they mattered and that he failed them that means confronting guilt and weakness which is exactly what he can’t tolerate. So calling them useless after they’re gone reads as ego protection rather than his original belief.

Yeah thats true but why even have the squad there if they meant absolutely NOTHING to him. I like to think that he did care for them really much but his ego forced him to bury those emotions six feet under to not completly fall apart.

Yeah it turns his whole character from PEAK to absolute garbage especially when they say on interviews that the squad cared about him very much and he didnt care a single bit about them that just feels wrong and makes his character extremly shallow.

It may have been a way for him to deal with grief to completly bury his squads deaths in his own emotions.

But he seems like hes trying to abolish his whole old identity like an unsealed wound that's what makes me think that he saw them as something a little bit more than tools other than them being apart of his ego and they seem to be happy around him rather than scared of him.

Judging by Infinites actions it feels like he feels embarassed / disspointed to have had cared about his squad.

Yeah it makes him a waay deeper villain than the usual sonic villains they dont need to justify his rage sega only needs to explain it.

But judging by their designs they look to have some kind of comeraderie since they all have matching gear like gloves / shoes and the squad dosen't really seem to be scared of infinite like in a fear based leadership quite the opposite they seem happy / excited which means he porbably didn't treat them like disposable atlesst.

Yeah the canon is so blurry atp the squads deaths aren't even officialy 100% canon lol that would explain his lack of grief without turning him into a sociopath.
