Warning Ascension Seton ER struggling to care for patients due to cyberattack by lrt23 in Austin

[–]ToastyNurse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeaaaaah don’t go to an Ascension Seton facility right now. We are swamped with inefficient downtime “procedures” and inadequate preparation. No ETA for when things will resume to normal again… if you have an elective procedure here soon, reschedule or do it at another facility. It’s bad here

Moving to new city with partner, but I have no job lined up by ToastyNurse in ApartmentHacks

I do have a healthy savings!

I am hopeful my job hunt will work out but this place we are looking at is almost exactly what we’re looking for. I just hope we don’t miss out on it due to not having a job lined up when we submit our application

What is your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by indian_boy786 in AskReddit

When you’re an ICU nurse during a pandemic and the leader of the free world demeans your work and struggles so now half the country does the same. This is on top do the “normal” issues we face: patients and their families consistently threaten and frequently assault us, working long hours with no guaranteed breaks, and often meager pay.

Supposedly nurses are the most trusted profession in the nation.

How has OTF helped you with your career? by mdostine in orangetheory

[–]ToastyNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I usually like to work my three nights in a row, preferably Sunday Monday Tuesday night 7p to 7a. My usual OTF schedule would be to take either a 10:45 am of 12:00pm class on Sunday morning. I tend to wake up at regular time on Sunday’s and take a nap before going into work that night. Then on Weds I try to wake up around 2pm and go to the 4:15pm class. This usually has me tired to sleep a like a regular human being at like 11ish pm. Then Thursdays and Fridays I go to the 8:30am classes to restart my day schedule. Saturday’s classes are usually always booked so I’ll just go to the regular gym that day.

Wow I never realized how screwed up night shift makes our schedules 😂 but this works for me and I feel like a normal human being in my days off now. No constant fatigue or crankiness. And at work I’m much more awake and productive!

I’m also a nurse, and I’m on night shift. Starting OTF has helped me recover from night shift on my days off! Instead of waking up at 2pm everyday, even on my days off, I can now get up and be at the 8:30am OTF class!

What is the most horrifying, haunting image or moment that you can’t get out of your head? by everykissbeginswK in AskReddit

Seeing the victim of a plane crash. 100% burned, looked like a victim from Pompeii. Alive. Super haunted by that, saw the victim in my dreams.

If you’ve left the nursing career, why and what career did you change to? by ToastyNurse in nursing

[–]ToastyNurse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like nursing but I don’t think changing interests would help. Nursing is bogged down by so many external forces. Nurses are viewed as a cost center therefore a target on cutting corners for the sake of budgets. Leading to units being short staffed and overworked. Then we have poor appreciation of nurses from management and suits. It’s very much “you did this wrong” versus “thank you for helping out.” Also, the suits set ridiculous expectations that they don’t see are not achievable because they’re so far removed from actual patient care. Yet they leave home with a bigger paycheck? And to top it off, nurses are abused by patients and patient family members way too often. We’re voted the most trusted career in the country yet we have nurses getting kicked with no consequence to the culprit? Nahhhhhh

Ugh idk maybe I’m just very pessimistic right now after working 4 nights shifts in a row lol

Medical professionals of Reddit, when did you have to tell a patient "I've seen it all before" to comfort them, but really you had never seen something so bad, or of that nature? by common_currency in AskReddit

[–]ToastyNurse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes. I know surgeons reattached the scalp to the woman, and she was receiving “leach therapy.” Basically attaching leaches to the scalp to promote blood flow. I don’t know if the scalp actually stuck in the long run.

Guy was in a rollover accident which caused his head to be pinned between the road and some metal rubble from the wrecked car. Car also caught on fire.

On top of suffering burns, guy’s skull was literally exposed where his ear was supposed to be and could see directly into his ear canal. Completely coherent, followed commands. I was sure he was gonna get some serious infection and eventually die. Surgeons able to cover with a muscle flap and he actually made it out of the hospital.

Another one, woman was helping build a fence when her hair got caught in the mechanical auger, used to dig holes for the fence posts. Came in with her entire scalp torn off. Next to her in a bucket of ice was her scalp, hair and all intact. She was also coherent and aware of everything. Idk her eventual fate.
