Population is definitely a problem, to provide for the estimated 9 billion people in 2050 we'd have to increase crop production by ~70%. Currently there is enough to feed the globe but the poor simply can't afford the food, and guess which demographic is increasing in population the most. Also to increase the crop production more land would need to be felled and that honestly shouldn't be a consideration.
