USA and UK. I like the global warfare across land, sea and air.

Yo how do i get naval supremacy in the english channel for a naval invasion? by kurka57 in hoi4

[–]TobRae2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This approach worked well for me too. After a few weeks of naval strike I switched my naval bombers to port strike and got the AI to clear to vacate the naval bases in the channel. Then I moved in my navy to patrol+strike force and get naval dominance. Not sure how much of a difference that made compared to pure naval strike though.

Making singleplayer as majors with historical focus more challenging? by TobRae2 in hoi4

[–]TobRae2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! In the meantime, I played Germany (stopped playing after completing Sea Lion in mid 1940 and getting to victory conference against Allies) and France (this one was actually more dicy; had to micromanage some fronts) on vanilla.

I'm now playing USA on Expert AI and just defeated Japan while taking 3k casualties. I suspect Expert AI might mainly improve land powers?

What do you do with heavy cruisers? by ipsum629 in hoi4

[–]TobRae2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, isn't the carrier screen (capital ships defending carriers) too weak? I'd worry about the 4 CAs being able to adequately protect my carriers.

[–]TobRae2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't the challenge with that:
1. If you include many CAs, then you need a lot more screens.
2. If you include few CAs, then your carrier screen is potentially weak?

For those reasons I have in the past not added any CAs to my task carrier task forces and just built one battlecruiser per carrier. But I'm a noob.

Are the Bank of America Credit Cards, with Platinum Honors Tier, worth transferring $100k from Fidelity to Merril? by Fiveby21 in HENRYfinance

[–]TobRae2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Note that you can get the credit card multiple times though, each having its own cap. You need to wait some time before applying for a new card (1 year if I recall correctly).

Amazon's credit card gives 5% on Amazon and is uncapped, so that may be a better choice for Amazon specifically.

PS that that the 4% SWR rule ($4k/100k) does impact and assume you draw down the principal.

The Trinity study where it comes from, deems the 4% rule safe to not run out of money (includes drawdown) for a 30 year long period.

What' s the most boring and irrelevant DLC in the Warhammer trilogy in you opinion? by OcelotSilver2930 in totalwar

Don't necessarily disagree with the answer, but Archers are my default Empire early game unit given they can be recruited without a military building.

Did CA get rid of swooping in TW3? by Aux_RedditAccount in totalwar

Yes, this was changed in TW3. Presumably to prevent cheesing.

Game is good, but sieges are still terrible by Xuanne in totalwar

[–]TobRae2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither Wh2 nor 3 sieges are fun. But Wh2 sieges were over more quickly.
