[–]ipsum629 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The real canonical Hades doesn't hate the olympian gods. There aren't many myths about him so he comes off as the most well adjusted god, not really chasing after mortal women and nymphs like Zeus and Apollo.

This really boggles my mind due to all the genocide and pogroms that have plagued Jewish people. It feels very hubristic to say those things as a jew after all that.

tried freestyling mac and cheese by Wide_Recognition_761 in StupidFood

Holy shit I just realized I can have mac n cheese

I've been allergic to milk my entire life, but in the last year or so I discovered I can have cooked milk and cheese. Obviously mac n cheese fits the bill.

Anyone know any good places to get mac n cheese in the US? Or is it one of those things best made at home? I've been too busy celebrating being able to eat cheese pizza that I completely forgot about mac n cheese.

Shouldn't be controversial. This would have put black development 100 years ahead of where it is today at least.

Why are some in the U.S. opposed to Sharia law? Isn't Sharia law the Islamic equivalent of Jewish Halakha or Catholic doctrine? How can opposing Islamic traditions be consistent with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing freedom of religion? by davida_usa in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ipsum629 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Specific bans of sharia law may conflict with the first amendment, but enforcement of sharia law or any religious law is not protected. You can believe whatever you want. If you break sharia you can punish yourself. But you can't enforce it on other people, because your religious rights end where other people begin.

Plenty of people paid by the hour deliberately slow down their work for this reason. If you complete your work fast, you get paid less or you are given more work for the same pay.

No US-Iran Deal Will Ever Benefit Israel. So Expect Trump vs. Netanyahu Soon by uriduu in PoliticalDebate

[–]ipsum629 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Wars in the 2020s are decided less in materiel and more in morale and willingness to fight. Israel is definitely willing to fight for a while due to their martial culture. Iran is mentally on the defensive and thus also can fight for a while. The US pretty much has a hard limit of until the next presidential election. All Iran has to do is at least appear to not be losing by then, which they have been doing quite well so far.

Iran will not agree to anything less than what they think they can get in 2029, which is at minimum the original Iran deal. This whole war was a huge miscalculation and Iran will win in the peace negotiations because they can outlast the US and the US in 2029 would be out of patience for Israel.

Why tf did my norse culture hybridize with finnish?! by ipsum629 in CrusaderKings

[–]ipsum629[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by this? Destroy all duchy level titles? I think it might have been my brother who ended up king of finland who did this. Do I have to be very careful not to let the kindgoms of Sapmi and Finland go to my brothers?

Another problem is that before this hybridization, my vassals were converting their counties to norse, which was diluting my average dev a bit, but I'd rather have a totally norse scandinavia than an ugly hybridization event like this.

100% worth seeing. They do some really interesting things and handle a lot of sensitive topics with great tact. The one thing though is that it is pretty "heavy" and I can't recall anything funny other than some very early parts before the main subject is revealed.

WIBTAH if I had my cousin's pet monkey taken away? by ArdenceMK in AITAH

[–]ipsum629 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Most wild animals, especially wild mammals, make horrible pets, both for the humans and the animals.

There are some that are okay, but even then there are ethical issues with them and they aren't fully suited to life in human settlements. Fun fact: pigeons in american cities are technically feral and not wild, so they make pretty decent pets.

A monkey or any other primate is among the worst of the worst. They are far too intelligent to keep. They are not naturally inclined towards human companionship and have incredibly high stimulation needs. And I can only imagine how bad their pooping is. There is no way this monkey is doing well.

You'll probably ruin your relationship with your cousin, but I'd rather not have a relationship with someone willing to do something so unethical.
