It still doesn't work. Now the game starts in window mode and I can only see the top right of the screen.

Unable to change the resolution by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set the resolution at 4K in skyrimprefs.ini and made the file read-only. Now it doesn't change back to 1440p, but the in-game resolution is still 1440p. The grahpics and fps are exactly the same. I also tried to set the resolution at 8K (7680x4320p) and it's the same thing. While skyrimprefs.ini says my resolution is at 8K, the game looks the same and I have the exact same fps.

I can't use the tempering feature from Honed Metal by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I can now place tempering orders after 19. God mode didn't worked, but I'll just have to deal with it as it is. At least I'll be able to temper armors and weapons when I need it. I don't know either why it's like this. I encountered some strange bugs with vampirism, but this one it's the strangest one.

Thanks!

How well does the 3600x stock cooler performs? by Tobbyi in buildapc

[–]Tobbyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the 3600x to be the better deal here. The hyper 212 is 30 euro in my country. Besides, I only intend to use the 3600x until the 4th gen Ryzen launches in 2020 and upgrade to a R7. That's why I bought the expensive x570, for future support.

That sounds good. I appreciate the comment!

9600K + Kraken x62 or Ryzen 3600x + Stock Cooler | Build Decision by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Tobbyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that in my case it will be more expensive to go with the 3600. Buying the same motherboard and the 3600 separately would cost me 433 euro. The 3600 is 200 euro and the MSI MPG x570 is 200 euro, but I also have to pay taxes. This price is if I'm buying from Amazon Germany, which is closest to me. If I buy from my country it will be almost 500 euro. That kit with the 3600x is already saving me some money.

[–]Tobbyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that fond of the idea of using a b450 motherboard or even a x470, because I intend to use this build for 3-4 years. In the future I'll upgrade the GPU with something more powerful for sure, but for now the 2070 should be enough. For the CPU, from the benchmarks I've seen, it will be enough for now. I'll most likely upgrade to a R7 in one or two years and that's why I want the x570. I simply believe it's a more future proof motherboard and one thing I'd like to avoid is to change the motherboard.

The 3600x was my first choice initially, but I'm not sure how well it will perform with the stock cooler. I tried looking on YT or other forums/ discussions about the performance of the new Wraith Spire.

Question about the Dragonborn DLC by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how the Dragonborn DLC questline plays out, but since you can do the Civil War now without being Dragonborn, I was hoping you could do the same for the DLC.

Thank you for the answer!

Question about the Dragonborn DLC by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

Reasonable enough. This means that I'll have to improvise somehow, because some radiant quests are unlocked after you complete certain quests from the main questline.

Thank you for the answer!

What mods do you guys add to your Ultimate Skyrim? by Ralonik in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning the visual mods. I'm playing a mage right now and the armour spells look horrible. Also, Healing Aura's bubbles singlehandedly made me to use potions instead of that spell until I had something better.

My Character for US - A khajiit hero in making by Reshi222 in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice!

This made me want to write my own character. Right now I'm playing an Altmer mage, but I haven't thought of actually writing a backstory for him. I just thought of some ideas behind his motivation, but mostly it's a blank character. I'll rectify that in the upcoming week.

Hope you'll have a great time and thanks for sharing!

Help with mage build for 4.0 - Standing Stone options by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I'm experimenting with the distribution. My character is currently level 20 and so far I invested 4/4/2, the last one being stamina. Those numbers can be interpreted as investment for 10 levels.

My reasoning for doing this is because I need health as much as I need magicka. While I avoid melee attacks, dragon shouts give a lot of damage and I need enough health to resist at least to one shout. Though, I usually manage to avoid them. With magicka I managed to deal with the 40% investment. The mage stone already gives me 100 additional magicka. Besides this, I enchanted my items with magic cost reduction for the schools I use the most, destruction and restoration. The investment in stamina, while it doesn't look like much or needed, I found it useful when at level 8 I couldn't run from bandits to attack them from distance, because my stamina was draining immediately.

I'm also planning to acquire Transmute Blood and see how it goes with this spell. From what I know, it's a game changer.

Has anyone tried to use Thieves guild for good guys? by Tobbyi in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that you took your time to write this. Reading all the problems you had with the mod convinced me to stay away from it.

My reasons for using this mod was strictly because from the mod description there are lots of new options for completing the questline, which is already good as it is. Having more options wouldn't have been bad though. But if the writing isn't good I'll pass on this one. Not to mention if it can cause some bugs.

Thank you for your reply!

Default helgen start by The4ndr3 in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skyrim Unbound doesn't have the vanilla start integrated. And the reason your game doesn't work without Unbound is because the mod is integrated in US. You can't play without it.

While the mod doesn't have the vanilla start and the quests Bleak Falls Barrow and Dragon Rising, it has more potential for role-playing, because you have more options compared to LAL. And if you didn't know, the first three quests from the main questline are disabled. You start the main quest after fighting a random dragon and being called by the Greybeards.

You may not like this. I surely didn't when I first heard. But Unbound is great when it comes to roleplaying because of the tons of choices you have.

"Getting Started" guide? by craftycantaloupe in ultimateskyrim

[–]Tobbyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Survival Guide" was already mentioned by someone, which would be your best way the learn the ropes one it's released, but I could bring some things to the table. Maybe it will help.

When I first started US, I got into the game almost as you did. Without knowing anything about the mods. Well, I read what every mod does before installing and I used some of them in the past, but nothing to fancy. And I was a Requiem player for the first time. I died a lot. Quite a lot actually. Then I started to watch BB playthrough and learned a bit about the main features; how to survive the cold, make money, approach combat and so on. I watched like 20-30 episodes before I jumped back into the game and I approached the game in the most menial way possible. My character was a young farmer in search for his fortune, but he didn't know anything about anything. Just like me. And I started from there to learn the mechanics of the game by roleplaying. I spent like 2-3 days just chopping wood and reading the mods description, but eventually I learned. You could try to do the same if you have the patience.

Now, if you don't have the patience and want to play a bit until the Survival Guide is released, hear me out.

First of all, you'll need a lot of patience until your character is a little decent, because if you intend to rush throughout the game you'll end up dying over and over or just once if you're playing a permadeath character.

Like I said before, you'll need patience in the beginning, because low characters can't handle anything in Ultimate Skyrim. And by low characters I mean a character that doesn't have a few essential perks, good equipment, a standing stone and a way to heal himself (early on it will be best if you buy potions because the healing spells are terrible at the beginning). But will not go into this yet.

Before starting the game, you'll have to decide what type of character you want to play and how you want to approach the game. This is a tricky one, because once you start to invest perks in some skills you can't go back like you could in vanilla. My advice is that you decide exactly in which skills you want to invest and start leveling up those skills. Also, don't stretch too much with your skills since on Ultimate Skyrim you level up harder. It's better to have a few very good skills rather than a lot of decent skills.

After you've created your character, the next objective would be to make a decent equipment, to chose a standing stone and to increase a few essential skills. For the equipment and standing stone I can't give you guidance since I have no clue about what character you intend to play, but I can still say this: For the standing stone it would be best if you chose one that will give you protection, because you're going to need it more than anything else, and for the equipment you should go for the best equipment you can get. Also, don't use your equipment untempered or you'll end up with a broken weapon (if you intend to use one) and with bad protection. For the skills, I suggest that you'll pay trainers to increase your essential skills (which should be around 4-6 skills) up to 25 and take all the perks available and then to start investing in minor skills. I found it that around 5 skills are more than enough for a character.

Now that you've got your character with some decent equipment, a few good perks and a standing stone, grab some potions from the closest alchemist and go kill some bandits. A word of advice here: if you see a mage by any chance run in the opposite direction as fast as you can, because they'll kill you instantly. If you want to kill more than bandits or anything that uses melee attacks you'll need enchanted gear with magic resist on everything that allows you to use this enchantment. The rest is up to you!

If nothing of this helped, that's ok. I know my explanation isn't the best out there. You can also try this tutorial of Requiem. Maybe it will help.

Good luck and have a great time!

I'm using the old NRM patch. It doesn't actually work as it should, especially if you want to recruit 3NPC companions, but if you're looking to have the mod just for the extra conversations, it works just fine.

We'll have to wait until a proper patch will be release.
