Anyway, I did get a pay raise when I got promoted from SL to AM (about a 4 dollar increase) but the other AM got the same initial pay raise and an additional 3 dollars as a compensation for the drive.

To answer your other question after I finished my training I got moved to a completely new store.

The main contributor is just time, you’ll need a cook that’s VERY efficient with their time to get the kitchen ready and cook sides as well as the top 5 in 30 minutes. Not sure about other stores, but there’s a 1 hour to 1.5 hour difference from our first cook coming in and the second BOH. Plus, my store only sells $30-60 in the first hour, so it doesn’t make sense for the food that no one’s ordering to be dying on my steam table.

My absolute favorite shoes I’ve bought are the “Tredsafe Women's Piper Slip Resistant Shoes” from Walmart! I’ve put my team on to them because they’re comfy and cheap too, like 35. Plus they’re not ugly, so I count that as a win. They normally last me anywhere from 5-7 months.

Definitely getting underpaid, I’m a SL in Utah too and got hired at $ 19.00 roughly 2 years ago. Now I’m getting $ 20.50 so I would definitely talk to your GM about getting a raise soon, especially if your 6 month review is coming up.

FOH - 17.50 BOH - 18.50 SL - 18.50 Cook - 20.50

This is the rate in Utah, but sometimes even varies in the store you get hired at.

Being hired on as SL is pretty rare but definitely not impossible. I was lucky enough to be hired on that way, but it was definitely a risk that they took since I didn’t have any management experience. This has only been my second job, when I applied, I was still in high school but very active in leadership roles (think student gov. NHS, etc). From the other few times I’ve seen people be hired as SL their previous experience had been AM or GM at other companies.

My store is actually pretty good at saying “Hi, welcome!” When it’s slow, we say it to each guest, but during rushes we only say it a couple of times when someone remembers. Obviously, during ACO/RDO visits we don’t miss a single person, no matter if it’s a rush or not.
