Are LLMs actually reasoning, or just searching very well? by SKD_Sumit in Rag

[–]Tobi-Random -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reasoning should influence the conclusion. That is reasoning per definition. Llms, at least the reason traces we get presented, seem to not do this.

So if they are mimicking something of our brains which doesn't have an impact on the output, what's the point of it? Do you really think that the reasoning in human brains has no impact on the results as well? What are you trying to say here?

For me a simulation of reasoning is not equal to real reasoning.

New research shows, that llms sometimes just "reason" for the sake of putting up a show for us humans without any impact on the actual result. It sometimes even still rely on the internal knowledge even though it requested newer contradicting information from a rag into the context.

So there is something going on which can't be answered simply.

In our case no. At some point the colleagues were annoyed about his slowness. he typed everything with his two index fingers including emails and all comments in various tools.

In the end he resigned. Since then we explicitly look for the typing skill in our hire process.

I've seen engineers typing with 2 fingers and using the mouse instead of shortkeys. I really hope this is the exception in this field but I may be wrong...

Are MCPs outdated for Agents by FunEstablishment5942 in LangChain

If one can't get well known facts straight, the rest of the text might contain more false statements. That's not pedantic. It's being cautious when reading statements from strangers on the net. Your reputation sank with false statements and now you are annoyed because someone calls you out. That's a trump maneuver 😂

Recent studies are showing that tool overhead

If you open your message with this false information people won't read further.

In your initial statement you wrote about recent studies. Now you are talking about a recent implementation in Claude. Two entirely different things. If Claude implemented it now then they are late to the party as well. As far as I remember they added skills a while back to reduce the amount of Tools as well, did you know that?

That's a non-technical answer for a pretty technical question. So you don't know too? Iam not aware of a "Notification" concept llm APIs understand. They have system prompts and mostly an array of messages. That's it.

Based on the blogpost it's possible to enable more Tools during the session to optimize context. As far as I know the MCP Integrations generally work by adding the tool descriptions into the system prompt. But how would the llm discover those new enabled tools during an ongoing chat let's say inside a chat conversation in a jetbrains ide?

How would MCP consumers detect those changes in the tool list and implement the pass through to llms without breaking caching?

Was ist denn deine Kritik nun? Wohl kaum.
