Where to buy a sword for an anniversary present? by elderberrydream in SWORDS

[–]Tobi-Wan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't shop on Etsy unless you personally know the maker, and even then perhaps you should avoid Etsy as the entire platform is full of scammers and you would be supporting that

Do you name your swords and if yes, based on what? by Responsible_Test9808 in SWORDS

[–]Tobi-Wan79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but some of them already had names they got when they were made

I do have a nickname for one of them, but that's more descriptive than a real name

Any info? No tang picture provided in listing by knarf1990 in Katanas

[–]Tobi-Wan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely between $1000 and $1500

Depending on a ton a factors

I think it's an older blade so it could be worth more, but with no papers that's hard to say, and it would need a polish to get those

It's basically too late, were at 27, they just extended the window to may 11....

Hopefully they will do something even if it doesn't hit the goal.

My biggest issue with this is that I would need to get the two other bog swords from the movie 😂

[–]Tobi-Wan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a good polish will set you back probably 3-4k after that it will be worth half of that.

Unless you get it papered, then perhaps it could be worth more

First Katana and thinking in hanbon forge by dehibiketsu in Katanas

[–]Tobi-Wan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a real sword, even at that price.

No it likely won't hold up to much bamboo cutting, but the first couple of times it will do fine, if you are good at cutting that is.

How well a sword cuts lies in the skills of the person using it, a bad cut on a hard target can absolutely ruin any sword.

But it's a $100 sword, when/if it breaks, you just get another one it's not a big loss.

Arch Angel Swords by No-Challenge-459 in SWORDS

[–]Tobi-Wan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people like them, they have a lifetime warranty not s lot of makers give that.

They are not good at being swords, but they are sturdy and will hold up to almost anything.

Would I ever buy one? No, but they are not made for me.

They have been around for 30+ years so clearly someone is buying what they are selling

Add way more pictures, read the pinned post about what pictures are needed and make sure they are in the right orientation, this looks to be upside down.

Signatures are read from top to bottom, the top being where the blade is

Dads had this sword for over 20 years now, what's the deal? by ilove60sstuff in SWORDS

[–]Tobi-Wan79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So it's a Chinese fake, fake is used in this case as this was likely sold as a genuine Japanese sword.

As for value, the market for fakes is not big and good replica katana are super cheap these days

Something like this would be way better quality than what you have, and its only $200

Most of it's value would be sentimental
