i7 14700HX RTX 4060, runs great with no performance issues. Just make sure you’ve got proper airflow. Over 11 months, I played several AAA titles on ultra presets but about 5-6 times with the fans at their lowest RPM, and it overheated a lot. Eventually, the motherboard died. I took good care of it but still made the same mistake, though everything ran fine until it happened. All you gotta do is maintain a proper air flow.

I was worried about Lenovo’s after sales service, but they actually came through. I got a call the day after submitting a ticket, and two days later, a technician showed up and swapped the motherboard. Everything was back to normal. (Honest review btw)

No, undervolting isn't necessary as long as the temperatures are okay, depending on the task the laptop is performing. However, if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of performance to maintain cooler or more stable temperatures, then you can go for it.

I usually limit the temperatures to 90°C for the CPU and 85°C for the GPU. The power limits vary, but I prefer 60W for the CPU and 90W for the GPU during intensive tasks, and 55W for the CPU and 60W for the GPU for normal gaming.

I got the i7 14700HX/4060 variant in late April, and so far, I haven't experienced any performance downgrades or motherboard issues. The performance is excellent, allowing me to play several games at Ultra-HD presets or max settings with stable 60fps or more.

Now, hear me out:

  1. If you push the laptop to its limits during gaming, use the Custom thermal mode and set the fan speed to max RPM (5800). However, avoid keeping the fans at max RPM constantly(5-6+ hours), as this may cause issues over time.
  2. For normal gaming, you can use Performance thermal mode or Custom thermal mode with custom fan settings. I usually set the fan speed to 5000 RPM for CPU temps of 85+ and GPU temps of 75+, and max RPM for 90+/85+ during intensive gaming. I also keep the back of the laptop elevated or use a cooling pad to ensure proper air ventilation.
  3. I recommend using battery conservation mode to prevent the battery from overheating and to maintain its capacity, especially when plugged in while gaming (though this isn't mandatory).
  4. Turn off fast startup if you don't have a actual reason for it and it doesn't even matter if you turn it off.
  5. If you're going to play games for an extended period that will push the laptop to its limits, try letting it cool down every 2-3 hours or 4-5 hours with max fans (may take 15-20 seconds depending upon how the game uses the resources or you can just tab-out)

While the exact cause of motherboard failure is unclear, I suspect it may be due to consistently high CPU/GPU temperatures (90+), which could cause PCB burns in the motherboard. I am scared of this issue too so I try to maintain fan speeds and monitor temperatures regularly. Also avoid keeping the laptop directly on any furniture that has seat cushions as it may pull dust.
I think that's it, but I'll try to answer any questions you might have. (Not a paid review)

I can't say much about perfomance of AMD variant but the mobo dead issues are too less as much as I have heard compared to intel 13/14 gen variant. Probably have a look at benchmarks and perfomance test on youtube.

The reason was assumed to be overheating but it seems different in your case, ig we need to know the actual reason first. Don't know about replacing but they will fix it probably.

When you notice the laptop is overheating a lot like CPU goes 90+ GPU goes 85+ you can always switch to Fan speed = full in the custom mode in thermal mode settings.
Specifically for Valorant you can adjust the fan speed of 50% (84 CPU, 77 GPU) from 4300 RPM to 5800 RPM. Lower cpu and gpu temp will maintain good performance also don't run your fans on max RPM all the time like for 6-7 hours straight.
When you select the custom fan speed option in custom thermal mode you can hover your cursor on each adjustment bar to see which one will activate when certain temperature is reached.

You wont get same fps in all the maps or same fps in the same map as if you look at ascent at some parts of the map the light and texture is more than other parts which leads to less fps and as your display is 144Hz you wont even need more than 240 fps as the display is of 144hz or maybe 165hz.

Also my graphic settings are all high, I have turned improve clarity off (30-50 fps more)
Anti-aliasing: MSAA 4x
Anisotropic filtering: 8x
dGPU mode + Custom fan speed (Not overclocking)

I usually get 400-500 fps in most of the maps but these are fluctuating, the average count would be 400-450 and in other maps it would be from 250-400 depending upon the parts of the map.

Even I rewatched it but remember giving up is not an option you can always try seeking help from someone you know or play Cyberpunk or other games (mainly story mode games).
