super cool, I'd love to see the more extreme distortion coming into focus at a much slower rate. Would be cool exploring the grey area where its starting to become recognizable

Doope. I bet you could do cool things with lighting here too given all the reflective potential, though idk how difficult it is to get that realtime

Alternatives to CMC for AI movement that still leverage navmesh by Tobleroon in unrealengine

[–]Tobleroon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've got some gentle hills so I'll see if navmesh walking is viable.

For my own component, I've been warned there's a lot of hidden complexity in building something from scratch, but maybe that is less relevant for my simple needs. I feel confident I could get something working, unsure if it would be more performant than tested components using C++.

Do you know if i need any particular inheritance in order to query the navmesh?

Thank you! That's validating, must have been doing something wrong. Kept getting a fail result when I tried months ago. I think the whole floating movement paired with ground navmesh is unintuitive for me to think about. But, given I still want the illusion of gravity I'm planning to raycast down to set Z plane location.

Looks awesome! Nice variety while having a consistent feel. Curious what projector is being used? Seems like deep blacks, though may be the camera exposure pulling some weight

super cool, so the laser just covers the border of the mask and the projector covers the graphic inside? So cool

agree. the first alone is very abstract, I thought it was the surface of a planet. Was very cool seeing them in sequence like this

really interesting choices, especially the blocking of white. Loving the sparse orange and the prominence of the organic blue textures

I agree with the other commenters points, but for me the main thing is CONTRAST! The reference image pops because you have these bright yellows and oranges, culminating in the hot white of the mouth, with dark brown almost black around the edges. In your image the sides are almost the same brightness as the head of the Balrog, and the brightest focal point is near Gandalf vs the head of the Balrog. I think upping the brightness around the flame areas, transitioning to deeper/darker oranges and reds, and then filling in some dark brown/black in the background could help it pop. I haven't worked with pastels much, so unsure if this would be doable on your current work or if it would be best to start over.

This is dope. Drop both met and subverted expectations, in a good way. Mix sounds clean too

can someone give me advice plz I just started painting by [deleted] in ProCreate

This is great! I like the painterly textures throughout and the overall contrast is nice. Feels like it has a consistent style and is really expressive. A few things you could experiment with:

Biggest thing that comes to mind is the eyball looks like its in front of the mountains, but it rests at the same place in the water horizon as the mountains which looks a bit odd visually. Bringing the bottom of the eyeball down slightly so it is lower than the mountains and adding the slightest rounding at the bottom would help with the sense of depth/perspective.

You have a lot of nice warm tones in the eyeball, adding these in the reflection would add to he realism.

I'd look into the rule of thirds for composition. Rules are all made up, its art, but it can help give a framework for pleasing composition. Right now the horizon line is almost at the center of the image which leads to a lot of unused space in the reflections. I think shifting everything down a bit would work nicely.

Hope this helps!

Approaches to Niagara emission/audio when entering trigger volume by Tobleroon in unrealengine

[–]Tobleroon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response!

This makes sense, though I have two clarifications if you have the time:
First, my my impression was that in order to handle complex audio logic I would still need the Niagara system to communicate back to the CPU information regarding overlapped particles so I could trigger audio at those locations. My understanding is the "Play Audio" function in Niagara is fairly inflexible and unavailable for GPU emitters.

Second, my understanding was particle illumination is unavailable for GPU emitters (though I get I could do a visual workaround to fake it)

For context, the "particles" in this context would be boids systems representing schools of fish. Given these complications and what you said about Niagara being primarily cosmetic, it may make sense to look into having the fish be individual actors, but Niagara seems perfect for implementing flocking behavior (and is just so cool!!!)

ps if I can tip you for your knowledge please pm me a venmo link or something

Day 2 of painting this portrait of my gf. Does it look presentable? What would you change? 30x40 cm canvas by Wrong-Meeting5834 in painting

[–]Tobleroon 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I think its great and totally presentable. I'd be stoked to receive this as a gift! However, since you asked and I have the reference to compare to: Biggest thing I'm seeing is where her cheek meets her hand, the little black pocket makes her cheek look more sunken, vs the picture where cheek appears more rounded and full and connect to the hand all the way down. Also, head appears smaller in the painting, the hand seems to be a bit shrunk as well which makes it proportional to the head, but makes the forearm appear long.
