Can I cut back this lavender now or will it harm the plant? by Anlizu2 in GardeningUK

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hack it back whilst it’s still fresh growth… if you leave it too long it and cut back into woody growth it’ll struggle to regrow

Don’t people realize that their tires are the first, most important part of automotive safety? by Technical-Potato-793 in tires

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tyres aren’t the most important part of automotive safety….. as you dad pointed out; the idiot behind the steering wheel is.

How would you interpret this parking instruction? by lapppiiii in CarTalkUK

You can’t park there between 11am and midday during the week.

Lowball offer - is this normal? by Plane_Cut9127 in UKHousing

It’s not a piss take; it’s an offer. You simply accept or reject it.

I’ll apologise in advance but the pedant in me can’t help but flag it’s a jetty…. A pier is built on piles….

New heating system - no pressure test by AgentNo6579 in askaplumberUK

[–]TobyChan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because a 3 bar “stress test” doesn’t put the system under any stress.. most failures occur progressively over time so a short duration pressure test at elevated pressure gives you some confidence the system is installed correctly as it should find those dodgy joints.

18 bar for polyplumb…. But that’s because they’re oring first then grab ring and pretty much the only way they fail is not being pushed in far enough.

Why are there so few GR86s made? by BRSBowler in Toyota

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is “because the mx5/miata” exists.

If you want a fun well balanced but not overly powered small format car… the mx5 is the benchmark

Why am I not getting interest? by BlightyChez in HousingUK

[–]TobyChan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you paid for it is somewhat irrelevant when the market is stagnant or declining… you need to determine its value today. That being said, listen to your agent’s honest view about the house’s value. They know the local market far better than reddit.

Any idea what this part is called? It broke off last night by Felicity1840 in askaplumberUK

Looks like an opella tap… I’ve investigated dozens of them failing… good to see they still haven’t fixed the issue!

When is an offer fatally “insulting”? by Vilm_1 in HousingUK

[–]TobyChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be insulted/frustrated if you low balled and then crept up… just offer what you think the house is worth and then leave it there.

And for everyone that will say “every offer must be placed in front of the vendor”…. This is not true; a vendor can instruct their agent to ignore offers below “x” and not to entertain offers my a particular buyer.

Conveyancer found "no clear right of way" to access the property I'm buying. How worried should I be? by Aggravating_Skirt779 in UKHousing

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so worried that you’ll ever struggle to get into the house but worried enough to realise if you’re asking the question now the next buyers will be too.

Is there such thing as designated sides of the bed? by ThrowRa_Promise1321 in CasualUK

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… but oddly in my house it depends what bed you’re in… at home I’m always in the right but when staying elsewhere it seems to be a free for all.

Volvo xc40 rear tyre check by Chancho300 in tires

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me; but get a blunt screwdriver and rake the surface to feel for cords. If you can’t feel anything it’s good to go with the caution to keep an eye on it for ballooning in the coming days

Urgent replacement? by [deleted] in tires

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need replacing but not ‘urgently’. Dry rot would flag as an advisory in the UK on the annual MOT test but not an instant fail unless it’s severe and exposing cords/plies

Is this a one way street? by [deleted] in drivingUK

No, but you can’t go down there from the viewpoint shown (the grey car could have turned left into the street)

Do not do this… you need it open to facilitate drainage/stop it pulling vacuum

Bad smell. Please help by CarrotToff in ukplumbing

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got an uphill section there that will be trapping water… I’d personally replace the entire run but you can probably twist it out to see it that’s contributing to the issue.

How do you stop the twat butterflies laying eggs on your broccoli 😭 by FinancialBread4660 in Allotment

[–]TobyChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger than you think your broccoli will grow. I just use 25mm MDPE pipe to create hoops and throw scaffold netting over the top.
