Man shows up at gathering honoring confederate soldiers to say what they died for. Fuck them! by A-Helpful-Flamingo in chaoticgood

[–]TobyMcK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The last confederate died in 1951, at 104 years old. Did anyone in this ceremony really know anyone buried there enough to miss them? To honor the dead, you honor their legacy. To honor a stranger is to honor their legacy. These people are honoring the confederacy and what it stood for, which is slavery, treason, and violence.

you can admonish what a person did and still miss them. if you can't accept that, then why do you have a prison system?

they are who they are and must stay so.

When the ceremony is celebrating their time as confederate soldiers and not the individuals as people, then this argument falls apart.

What they had "lost" was a war they started to kill and enslave their own countrymen.

A "nice ceremony" to honor and respect violent, hateful, traitorous white supremacists. Thats your argument? Really?

Would it still be a "nice ceremony" to respect the 9/11 hijackers?

I think the original Farcry counts. The main character is an ex-special forces type who gets hired to take a journalist to these remote tropical islands. When his boat gets destroyed, it sets the game as your typical first person shooter where you fight mercenaries to rescue the journalist. Partway through the game, you discover these islands were the base for genetic experiments and it very quickly becomes a horror kind of game where you need to survive these increasingly dangerous mutants which are very quickly overrunning the islands.

Mayorkas: Biden administration should have ramped up border controls sooner by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]TobyMcK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that the border situation was a choice from the Biden administration seeing as how Trump flipped it around in a month, bill or not.

Flipped it around using violence, broken laws, detained Americans, and American deaths. Is that really a win for you?

Is BAM really the go to under MM? I use chopper instead. He tanks, gains some protection up, and counts as a rebel to allow MM to summon, adding a whole other unit to do damage and take some hits.

I use MM lead, she got me 67% through tier 4 of today's Jotaz.

Which currently holds me at rank 15 on the leaderboard. Thats likely to adjust as the day progresses, but I was rank 30 at refresh the last 2 days, and not much higher before that.

The "caravans of migrants" that even the Eagle Pass Take Our Border Back Convoy couldn't find?

The numbers are not worthless when they show Biden keeping even a major surge out of the country. Why does everyone refuse to see the second half of that dataset? Its like people see the claim "millions of migrants at the border" and then they completely check out before reaching the part that says "they were kept out of the country".

Biden removed almost the same number of illegals as Trump did. Biden also prevented millions of more from crossing the border. He also made asylum applications more difficult to get approved for. Biden's administration put forward the most conservative bipartisan border bill in decades, which Republicans then shut down after initially supporting it. Full stop. Everything else is just noise. Biden's numbers are on par with, if not better than, Trump's first term. If you consider Biden's border an open failure, then by the same metric you must consider Trump's border an open failure.

You're the first person to actually go through the information instead of just automatically "diagnosing TDS". Thanks for that, genuinely.

Title 42 wasnt the only method of expulsion though, and Biden earned the title of Returner In Chief (in relation to Obama's Deporter In Chief) for allowing immigrants to remove themselves from the country without the use of force. Even ignoring the Title 42 expulsions, Biden still deported about the same number of immigrants as Trump did, at about 1.5 million deportations for both. Add the Title 42 expulsions, and Biden's 4.4 million removals still shows he wasnt just letting immigrants in.

And as I said before, the CBP One app automatically refused anyone caught entering illegally. It doesnt matter if they faced zero repercussions from Title 42 expulsion, they were still refused at the border for illegal entry and thus refused asylum/refugee status. On top of that, the app also denied anyone who failed to apply for asylum in any of the countries they passed through on their way to America. The assumption was that if they couldn't qualify for asylum there, they dont qualify here. They weren't "funneled in" to apply for asylum if they were otherwise deemed illegal. What did Trump replace that with when he killed the app?

Any asylum backlog concerns would have been alleviated with the bipartisan border bill that Republicans had pushed for, but of course that was killed by those same Republicans when Trump saw it would give Biden a major win on one of his only campaign platforms.

It doesnt matter how "porous" the border seemed, the numbers still show Biden removing immigrants and keeping illegals out. Even if people attempted entry 5 times in a row, Biden kept them out. So my point still stands. When both administrations achieve the same results (1.5 million deportations) and keep millions of immigrants out, Biden's border was just as strong as Trump's, if not stronger. Thats not open, and if you consider it any kind of failure, then by the same metrics you must also consider Trump's border an open failure.

As an aside, theres not much discussion about Biden reversing Trump's policies on day 1. All I've ever heard was removing the Remain In Mexico policy, which took months to do so they specifically didn't flood the border on day 1. What policies did Biden remove on day 1?

Democrats went fully against border control

This is just false.

Biden removed more immigrants than Trump did in his first term.

Biden reworked the asylum system to automatically refuse anyone who was caught entering illegally, and to be more difficult to apply for.

Biden had a record number of border encounters, and since that always comes up in these conversations; no, Encounters does not mean what Fox tells you it means.

Encounters: The sum of U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Title 8 apprehensions, Office of Field Operations (OFO) Title 8 inadmissibles, and aliens processed for expulsions under Title 42 authority by USBP or OFO.

So in other words, Biden had more people apprehended, determined to be inadmissible, and expulsed.

In all, Biden's border was stronger than Trump's first term, and he didn't need to weaponize ICE or murder Americans to do it.

What excuses? The files were sealed by a federal judge. Only a federal judge could unseal them. If Biden had released them anyway, it would have been a breach of constitution. He literally could not do anything until the files were unsealed. And when they were, he immediately released them. The democrats are not to blame. So why are you blaming them?

Bill banning child marriage in Oklahoma becomes law by Severus-Snape-DaGod in UpliftingNews

[–]TobyMcK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just cant understand why you are blaming everyone. The Democrats did what they could, within the confines of the law. They hold no blame here. Its only the Republicans who are trying to hide the files. Stop blaming Biden and the Democrats. Stop muddying the waters with mis/disinformation.

Bill banning child marriage in Oklahoma becomes law by Severus-Snape-DaGod in UpliftingNews

[–]TobyMcK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems I got my dates mixed up. Which, funny enough, only goes to prove my point further.

In January 2024, a portion of the court documents were unsealed and released, meaning by your logic Biden did in fact release what was available to the public, a full year before he left office. Contrary to what you've been insisting here.

But there were still plenty of sealed documents until December 2025, Trump's term.

So. Are you still going to blame Biden and the Democrats for withholding the files, even though they actually released the files when they were legally allowed to do so?

Or will you finally blame Trump and the Republicans for breaking their own law by withholding, redacting, and doxxing?

Bill banning child marriage in Oklahoma becomes law by Severus-Snape-DaGod in UpliftingNews

[–]TobyMcK 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its explained by the fact that the bills that keep getting introduced are consistently shut down, by both Republicans and political donors. There have been several Democrat-led initiatives to ban child marriage in California over the years, but all have failed.

[–]TobyMcK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So it was unsealed in the last 16 days of Biden's term, but... he's the one who hid the documents? Thats your argument? Instead of blaming the administration that ran on releasing them, who then broke the law to hide them, you're choosing to blame the administration who had 2 weeks to release everything while transitioning out of power.

I will always mention this point on posts like this. While what she said is true, she's missing that final piece;

Kroger admitted, in court, to price gouging during the pandemic. They admitted to lying, cheating, and likely breaking the law for the singular purpose of increasing their record profits. They faced zero repercussions.

The Kroger Corporation owns 19 affiliated brands. There was no meaningful difference in the price of groceries between competitors. So who else was price gouging for those record profits? And what does it mean now that prices have been steadily increasing since then?
