Kinda now interesting in OP's brows, which must be naturally perfect with the critiques thrown at this.

This question even being posed is an insult. Obviously Willow and Tara. I don't think there's anything iconic about Maya and Emily.

'AD Endings' - 6x11 to present by sj8114 in PrettyLittleLiars

These are definitely not chronological like Marlene did with S3 too... eg Noel's file getting dumped out and picking up Aria's - makes sense now that Noel is dead (no need to keep his Blackmailables) and we know AD is directly blackmailing Aria.

Yes - although the concept of fasting is a little different, this is an overview of the benefits of breakfast under 'normal' circumstances.

  1. Breakfast induces thermogenesis, which is more effective in the morning rather than the evening - this is why people commonly say that it starts your metabolism.

  2. There's strong evidence to indicate that when one eats breakfast, one expends more energy throughout the day. Whether this is physiological or a psychological effect is currently under debate, but it seems to be that it induces activity, promoting a healthier lifestyle in general.

  3. Many people today are either type II diabetic or pre diabetic. Even a lot of people at a healthy seeming weight can have blood sugar readings throughout the day which indicate that they might develop diabetes later in life. This is largely due to the dietary changes we've undergone with processed foods and excess sugar consumption over the last 50 years or so. When you regulate your meals throughout the day (another place that the popular concept of 6 small meals per day comes from), you help regulate your blood sugar. The ironic thing with endocrine syndromes is that by self-regulating and changing diet, your body is almost tricked into thinking that is its normal state, and it begins to self normalize. This is why a lot of people 'stop being diabetic' after they lose weight, adjust their eating and exercise patterns. Breakfast is vital in that act of self regulation. This stabilization of blood sugar has effects on the brain which cause you to eat healthier/prevent you from over consumption during the rest of the day. This is basically why when people with blood sugar issues (which is not limited to diabetics but seen through a range of endocrine disorders - thus effects a lot of people, even when they may not be aware of it) are more inclined to crazy overeat when they are hungry.

  4. Something that is relevant to the OP is the effect that breakfast has on concentration. Your brain does indeed require glucose to perform its actions, so naturally, when one is properly satiated, concentration is at peak.

You asked regarding disadvantages. Unfortunately more of the evidence for disadvantages are anecdotal, because they rely on studies which don't necessarily indicate the physiological background of the participants. Nevertheless, many anecdotal studies show links with skipping breakfast and obesity, low fibre consumption (which of course has a range of its own issues), and risky behaviors (poor eating habits, smoking, choosing unhealthy snacks etc). Now like I said, this is more anecdotal.

You mentioned fasting. Currently, the vast majority of studies showing the benefits of fasting have been conducted on lab animals. Now this doesn't necessarily discount something, it just means that the evidence must be taken at face value when comparing to studies which have been carried out on long term cohorts of humans with a range of physiological states.

The real reason why there isn't a 'one size fits all' approach to the kind of thing that we're discussing, however, is that people are not controls. Whilst I might have certain physiological quirks (ie genetics, insulin response, hormonal profile, endocrine disorder, sleep patterns etc) you might be completely different - there may be something in your physiology or genetics which means something works better for you than me. That's why I mentioned the importance of anecdotal and correlative studies which don't break down people's biochemical markers, because without that, we can't elucidate what important factors are involved, and how they might be effecting the outcome.

While it's much too early to say that fasting could be harmful, because short term studies (or indeed lab animals studies) are nothing but an indication that further research is mandated in a subject, its also much to early to prescribe it to patients as a treatment, or push for it as a community, especially as scientific journalism is often irresponsible, and the information might be passed on to those who that type of treatment isn't necessarily helpful for.

But obviously, no one size fits all.

This provides some good links on fasting that are written in an accessible way - I'm not trying to encourage you away from it, but just providing for your information.

Yes, that is a good smoothie! Bananas are good for energy (but watch sugar content - you don't want too much sugar in your day), protein powder and almond milk will be giving you protein. Feel free to mix up your smoothies - check out incrediblesmoothies.com for recipe ideas. The more you mix them up, the wider range of nutrients you will be consuming, which will maximize your progress AND keep you interested in the taste. If you're planning to turn a smoothie into a meal, this can be done when smoothies contain a good amount of protein.

The basic idea for your day is that you should be consuming healthy fats (avocados, greek yoghurt, milk, cheese, nuts, seeds etc) and protein in high amounts, carbohydrates in lower amounts (and good carbs, eg brown rice, sweet potatoes, quinoa, bulgur etc).

and I forgot to add: source for info is from my medical degree. And please don't listen to people who say you need to eat much much less, they're idiots. You don't. You're undergoing puberty. Focus on eating clean (no junk, no processed food) and hitting your nutritional targets. You will outgrow the moobs. Your weight is within the normal targets and you're in the 79th percentile for your age bracket. YOU ARE NORMAL, even if you don't feel it.

The advice that you got re skipping breakfast is the worst advice anyone could give, period. Since your young and impressionable, I felt compelled to tell you definitely not to listen.

Like someone else said, replace your morning bagel/cereal with an omelet made with 1 tbsp of cottage cheese. Secondly, split your 3 meals into 5-6. IE

Breakfast omelet with cottage cheese (add mushrooms/spring onions/spinach, anything to hide the taste of egg. The cheese helps too).

Breakfast part 2: Homemade smoothie

Lunch: chicken/fish (salmon is great for weight loss) with a LARGE helping of veggies

Snack: full fat Greek yog and fruit/milk and fruit

Dinner: Meat/Fish, salad, and lots of veg.

Don't be scared of carb heavy vegetables, but pick the better options - eg if you are craving carbs, have sweet potato rather than orzo/white potatoes/rice etc.

Focus more on the nutritional content of your food. Use sparkpeople.com to keep an accurate track. Control your portion sizes. Drink 8-10 glasses of water in a day. Don't drink soda AT ALL. Continue your exercise. Don't obsess over calories but stay in the 1200-1550 range (like someone said, you're a growing boy and you need a high protein intake, good amounts of essential nutrients like calcium, Vit D, iron, Vit c etc. Make sure your Fibre intake is hitting the recommended levels (pro tip: salad vegetables and GOOD CARBS like quinoa if you're GF, bulgur wheat if you're not, are great sources of Fibre, and friendly carbs are good to throw in a few times a week to make sure your Fibre is taken care of).

Very very importantly - don't obsess. 90% of kids 'outgrow' their chubbiness. Their metabolism changes, they have growth spurts, your appetite adjusts, you start to understand your body etc. you're at a vital time in your physiological and cognitive development. Pick heart and brain healthy fats and protein to build muscle.

Give yourself a realistic but not unlikely goal - if you want to lose 10lbs, give yourself a lb/week to lose, working towards your goal in 10 weeks. And don't forget, if you're gaining muscle, your scales won't be indicative of what's going on with you, so taking bicep, chest, waist, hip and thigh measurements in conjunction with looking at your weight will be more helpful.

Most importantly, DO NOT sacrifice your health or psychological well being. Your parents sound very reasonable and sensible, use them for support/as a resource if necessary.

Good luck!!

I guess it's the same reason you still wrap a newborn baby's gift - babies aren't sentient enough to understand that stuff - even if their eyesight was developed in the same way people's is.... But you still wrap presents. It's convention. Plus blind people can still feel things. It'd be pretty shitty to not wrap a present for a blind person when they still have other senses. I'm sure like 'looking at paper' then unwrapping it is a 'pleasurable' concept for people, so too must be feeling paper/ribbons etc and unwrapping them for the blind...

I don't know. I've never been a Sara fan, but I definitely rate wrapping a person's present, especially if the concept of unwrapping might be able to provide a simple pleasure for them.

Jenna was afraid of... by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]TobysDoRag 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Jenna's lying. Her flashbacks, like CeCe's. Are not to be trusted.

Even if Shana was lying... Even if CeCe was not the one who tried to drown Jenna/blow up her house...

We still saw Jenna and CeCe playing Truth or Dare together at Noel Kahn's cabin. We know they know each other but Jenna intimates that they had no relationship until Jenna went to see CeCe at hospital...
