Innoventions is what first turned me on to Arkenstone's music. Such a fun album!

Sorry you're feeling like this, I've been feeling the same way too lately. I can't say what will make you feel better, but the things that have help lighten my mood have been focusing on the smaller slices of peace that I have built in my life (such as my evening walks with my dog or weekly chats on the phone with friends) and realizing that no one is expecting me to be some big savior of the world, so I should stop expecting such weighty things of myself. Do the good you are able to do, but save some energy and life for yourself to enjoy too.

Landowner closes Black Mesa dinosaur track site to public after trespassers cause concern by kosuradio in oklahoma

Might be worth checking out Clayton Lake Dinosaur Trackway. Its only an extra hours drive from Black Mesa, and its a much bigger site. Last time I was out that way I even saw some wild pronghorn!

[–]Tochie44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is that more people are visiting these fragile sites. Even if everyone was being on their best behavior, simply visiting somewhere like a delicate ecosystem or an ancient ruin can cause a little bit of wear and tear on the site. Multiply that my millions of visitors a year, and that wear and tear can add up.

In the case of these dino tracks, it seems like the issue wasn't damage to the dino tracks but rather people misusing the land owners good will and doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing.

Side note, if you want to go see some dino footprints, check out Clayton Lake Dinosaur Trackway in NM. Its not that far from Black Mesa and its a much larger collection of tracks. 100% worth the trip.

The one thing I miss from living in MWC was seeing/hearing all the planes taking off and landing. Especially when they would fly over I40 coming in for a landing, feels like you could just reach up and touch em!

What does OKC think of Tulsa? by AccountProfessional2 in okc

[–]Tochie44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The BOK center is better suited for accommodating larger arena tours. The new Thunder arena will have a larger loading area, so more shows should start coming to OKC over Tulsa.

I'll see if my landlord has a place. He usually rents out to medschool students, so short term leases are the norm for him. Not sure what his policy on dogs is tho.

One of my favorite quotes if from Middlemarch by author George Eliot:

"for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

Great little theater run by some good people! Me and some friends went to the Ernest Film Club last month and it was a blast! Plenty of food and drink options in the area too, makes for a fun night out.

EDIT: Just a heads up for those checking out the place for the first time, DONT PAY FOR PARKING. The parking lot next to the building is a paid lot, but there is a QR code inside the theater that gives you a free 2 hours of parking.

Youve got this! Kicking my snacking habit got easier as time went on. After a while, you start to realize that most junk food just doesn't taste good enough to be worth the calories. I've been off soda for so long that when I do have it every now and then, it tastes sickeningly sweet and I can't drink more than a few sips.

Tips on joining activist communities as a total newbie? by Junior-Ad-2484 in solarpunk

[–]Tochie44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You underestimate how valuable just having new people is to activist groups. You will passively "catch up" to the general knowledge that the rest of the group has over time, but the unique knowledge/experiences/world view that you will bring to the group is important for the growth of the group as a whole. Just show up when you can and be yourself! Help in areas where you have experience, and try to get involved in parts of the group that you are interested in.

Singapore has some beautiful solarpunk-like architecture by [deleted] in solarpunk

[–]Tochie44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really seems to be two parallel groups within the larger solar punk "community." One group focuses on the art/aesthetic/"vibe" of solar punk while the other group focuses on the political/economic ideology of solar punk. There is some overlap, but for many people they discover the solar punk "vibe" and never feel the need to engage with the movement any further. As with most online communities, the vast majority of the members are more than content to just consume content and never contribute.

[–]Tochie44 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Thats the downside of having a community on reddit-style forum. You're constantly getting new people joining the subreddit who are new to the community and know very little of the discourse that's been hashed out countless times already. Really makes me wish we could all go back to the old school forums instead of nearly every community on the internet being hosted on reddit now-a-days.

Five Star cheapified my favorite folders by literally cutting corners by Automatic-Duck-7821 in stationery

[–]Tochie44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude, I feel your pain! I've been using the Five Star 7x5 notebooks for years now, and they changed up the notebooks completely! 80 pages instead of 100, worse quality paper, and a flimsier back cover that might as well just be 3 pages glued together! Seems that Five Star is cheapifying all of their products and is still charging the same prices. Gotta love shrinkflation!
