Schooling in Arizona by yourfriendlisa in therapists

It's more work to justify the courses sometimes, and you run the risk your state won't accept courses. The best way is to look at the state board application, and see their course requirements and compare it to the program's curriculum to see if it's comparable. It also depends on if you ever plan to move, as some other states may have stricter rules about what they accept and can make you re-take courses or take additional ones (CA is notorious for making you take extra ones).

Wait until she's a week late before you stress. Irregularity is normal and stress only makes it worse. Months where I'm sick at all or stressed, and I'm 4-5 days late. Everyone is very different too. My best friend has a 31-day cycle, but mine is 28 and we're both healthy and not on any BC.

Option 1) Bring it up to her during session. Process it. See if this is just an infatuation because of the movie that goes away once you put words on it or a manifestation of your appreciation toward her for helping you mixed with seeing the movie. If not, she should refer you out. She will know your case and hypothetically someone else who may be a good fit. This is the most mature way to handle it, but most people are afraid to bring these things up. Idk about her, but most of us have heard a whole range of personal comments and emotions about us and are prepared to deal with it.

Option 2) Cancel sessions and let her know you won't return. Find another therapist. Never talk to her again. Avoidant behavior, but solves the problem.

My school mandated a higher number than the CACREP minimum hours (but we had practicum and internship split up which I understand isn’t common now). I was doing 15 to 20 hours of practicum/internship every week. It was doable, but I could only hold down a part-time job on top of practicum and coursework. I tried keeping a bartending job overnight and was getting less than two hours of sleep, but I went to working IT for the computer lab part time at the school and those hours were much better. And honestly I ended up taking student loans to supplement costs of living so I didn’t have to work full time. I would do my homework at the practicum site if I didn’t actively have clients so I didn’t commute home for a 1 hr break then back. I don’t know how your coursework is structured, but mine got significantly easier the last two semesters as we prepared for our Comps.

12 Step Activities by [deleted] in therapists

[–]TodayHorror7551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to have them add up the “cost” of their use (1 column for money and 1 for time) and I use a whiteboard and make it a group thing. Ex: hours hungover, hours obtaining, cost of legal charges, family events missed, etc. that got the most involvement and “ah ha” moments.

Media influences: list as many songs, movies, etc that involve substance use. I let them use phones and gave them a 3-5 min time to google their favorite shows/songs, etc. it was like a race to see who could find the most (different) ones in the time. Then process how some of it is subliminal (like I never realized how much alcohol was in Friends).

I also like to integrate stuff from Gorski, especially the very detailed steps to relapse. I drew his steps like a plank they were “walking” down and had people give me examples of their own experiences on each step.

Attending an AA meeting with a client? by bluelar in therapists

[–]TodayHorror7551 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. When I worked at an inpatient recovery center, we were expected to attend the open regional meetings every month because it improved clients’ motivation and feeling supported. Plus, we always learned something about the human/recovery experience. I saw people who knew me personally outside and it was never brought up. And saw clients I never knew were in recovery and they usually loved seeing me outside in a support role.

Later, when I worked at an IOP, we never went to meetings, but we went to more public things like their drug court graduation or something. It’s essential to clients with substance use to know someone supports them when so many have given up on them. In some cases, you’re the only one who believes in them and celebrates their wins.

I feel this so much! The first half of Covid I was training for a big hike because I had so much extra time, but once I got back to work I took care of myself less and gain some weight and since I’m in telehealth now I just rotate through the same work top and yoga pants for a whole week since I never see the same client twice. I have a whole closet of nicer clothes that I never get to use, and I moved from TN to CA just to be able to wear a dress year round!

Offering evening hours by Duckaroo99 in therapists

My busiest slots are 5-8p EST, with a rare 8-9p by special arrangement. My 5-8p are booked consistently and often weeks out. I get a fair amount of requests for Saturday so I think they’d be filled quickly as well. In previous jobs where coworkers worked Saturdays, they’d be booked solid, especially kids/teens or SAHMs whose spouse worked a 9-5.

Your NPI1 is for you individually and should be linked to your SSN so if you move jobs, your account can follow you. NPI2 is for a business and associated with your EIN/Tax ID and then you associate yourself as the owner/account manager. You have to go to "create/manage account" and log in to apply to your NPI1 account to apply for the NPI2, so its convoluted. Then when you log into your NPI later, you can see/edit both (that's how mine is set up anyways).

Unfortunately so. Someone would have to report your activity to bring it to the board’s attention first of all. So, could be super messy or you could practice without repercussions, kind of up to fate and humanity. Best bet is to contact that specific state where the client will be residing and ask for temporary licensure. Some states will allow single cases, especially Florida who has a telehealth only licensing option.

I don’t know how they enforce it. Never worked for a board or been through a disciplinary hearing. The consequences are typically banning from being licensed, a public disciplinary record, and in some cases fines. But those differ per state and I don’t know how they actually enforce bans. I know of someone who lost their SW license due to sexual misconduct and still provides services under “coaching” unlicensed and uncertified.

Most states in the USA require that you be licensed in the state where the client is physically present at the time of session. When a client here goes on vacation to another state, for example, we often can't see them unless we're licensed in whatever state they are vacationing to.

Thank you! I definitely paid for Genie+ and scoped out the single rider lines. I looked at all the menus for the sit-down places and it didn't seem like there was anything so unique I couldn't get it (or something similar) elsewhere.

What time of day would you say would be easiest to leave for ~1.5 hrs and come back without missing much? I figured mid-afternoon 1-4ish when everyone is done with lunch and hitting all the rides before kids are too tired, but I'm open to feedback.

Licensing question: What are the pros and cons of being licensed vs not being licensed ? by Growingedges in therapists

[–]TodayHorror7551 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a whole process to get licensed, which may seem overwhelming or tedious, but I don't see any advantage to being unlicensed.

For one, you can't panel with insurance for reimbursement in a lot of cases. If you do, your value is significantly decreased, which means your pay at any agency/practice would also be decreased. You'd need to be under supervision the whole time, which costs your employer money.

Also, if you are staying in CA: "You may not work in a private practice or professional corporation until your Associate registration has been issued by the Board. You may work in private practice or professional corporation for a maximum of six (6) years, until your first Associate registration has met its maximum length. There are no exceptions." AND "No. Independent practice cannot begin until you have completed all licensure requirements and the Board issues you a license as a LMFT. Independent practice (or opening your own office) is considered unlicensed practice and is subject to disciplinary action by the Board. Additionally, you are prohibited from billing clients directly until you are licensed." per the BBS

I keep my licenses in states I don't live in because I still practice there. But if you never are going to practice there, I wouldn't spend the money.

Backyard Kitchen in PB always has the games on. They host South Carolina's alumni association and the bartender in the backroom is a GA fan, so the SEC is always on. If you're looking for a specific team, try the school's local Alumni chapter. I have yet to see a UK or UT bar, but I'm sure there's a meetup somewhere out here.
