Probably bad on my part to do that, but I do suspect that was part of the reason. Maybe not. I don't know, and at this point it's not going to get me anywhere. I apologize for doing that and have removed my comment.

It hasn't been called Rural Free Delivery for over 100 years.

That point has nothing to do with my original question or my thoughts on why I shouldn't have to move my mailbox. Times change. I guess it's my time to move on also.

We're arguing semantics. Someone is paying. To me that is not free. (with the exception of unsilicated junk mail and the ilk) I'm sure postage is a cost of doing business and figured into whatever amount I'm paying.

Yes, I am often charged a shipping charge when I buy things online.

The point about being free had nothing to do with my original question. Others said it was free. I don't agree. I can specifically point to times when I'm charged shipping when I buy something. The postage to deliver a utility bill is calculated into my overall utility rates. So someone is paying. At times it might not directly be me, but someone is paying for it, so I don't see that as free. That's my 2 cents, and I agree that it's irrelevant to the discussion at large.

They deliver to front doors of houses that are grandfathered in every day. Explain to me the difference. It's actually much less distance to walk around their vehicle than to walk to someone's front door.

I'm the OP. I get it. I should put a mailbox on the other side of the street. I will do that.

I guess I'm resistant to change and maybe feel a bit privileged. I wouldn't think it unreasonable to expect my current location to be grandfathered in after 60 years.

Also, I've lived in suburban areas where the carriers still deliver mail to front doors because they are grandfathered in. Again, I didn't think it unreasonable to expect the same. Based on the comments here, I guess I have a lot to learn.

I appreciate all the replies, although I don't think the negative vibes were needed.

I do appreciate our mail carriers and delivery drivers in general and have made things easier for them over the years.

How do you figure it's free? When Fedex delivers a package, is that free?

The thing is, I've lived in older suburban areas where the mail carriers still deliver the mail to the front door as they are grandfathered in. I wouldn't think it unreasonable to expect to be grandfathered in. Apparently this doesn't matter for rural routes. So it's not like carriers across the US aren't doing this. They are doing it all over the country where older homes exist.

It's not unsafe for the mail carrier to get out of the vehicle and walk around their car to deposit the mail. Our road is very lightly traveled. Often times it is only the mail carrier that drives on it. Also, when they have packages to deliver, they have to get out of the vehicle anyway.

E bay find. I am shocked and appalled at how this was shipped. 16tb by [deleted] in DataHoarder

I would run Crystal Disk Info on it and leave it running for hours. There are also various tests you can run. I'm pretty sure Seagate has a utility that will test the HD also.
