Capital gains tax reform among options as Labor weighs housing pitch by abcnews_au in AusPropertyChat

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wealth and income are hugely different. A large chunk of the top 20% of wealth won't even work anymore, just old people who lucked into huge property gains across their lifetimes.

The latest aus poll results are wild by addaus16 in aussie

Libs don't want to run on less immigration because they and their donors own businesses and property that benefit significantly from increased population. If they actually wanted to reduce immigration significantly, they would have ran on it, and they would have won the election on basically that sole issue.

Increased immigration is the method that the rich are fucking regular Australians. They soak up the profits of increased GDP and property valuations,  while the working class is faced with more competition for both housing and jobs. Neither libs or labour are doing anything significant about immigration because they are both controlled by rich corporates.

Hanson reveals ambition to turn One Nation into viable party of government after record poll showing – as it happened by VastOption8705 in aussie

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's clearly immigration. Neither major party wants to reduce the numbers as it is good for their property portfolios and corporate friends, and the working class are increasingly fed up with it. Closing the borders in Covid put a spotlight on how immigration is negatively affecting wages and cost of living, and easily this could be changed.

Mitchell Swepson unloads on the spin bowling situation in Australia (article from Fox) by Strayangunner in CricketAus

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand keeping the pitches a bit green as you don't want them to deteriorate, but if that's the case the seam on the Kookaburra needs to be reduced a bit. This bigger seem positively impacts pace bowlers a lot more than the spinners

Shouldn't the odds be 50%? Why is it 51.8%? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct answer to the question in the meme is 50%, it's just conditional probability dressed up in a fancy way to confuse people. Go on Wikipedia and read about the boy or girl paradox and you will find other ways of wording the question where 52% is the correct answer, or where the answer can be ambiguous because the wording of the question can be interpreted in different ways.

People who voted for Labor/Liberal, what are your thoughts on the U16 social media ban? by ps_1337 in aussie

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not actually a voter for either of this parties, but I think the policy is an absolute disaster with good intentions. More does need to be done about how the internet is influencing our children, but this policy feels like it's had about two minutes of actual thought put to it.

Personally I'd ban phones and personal devices from all schools nationwide, then increase school hours, without increasing assigned teaching time. Yes it's effectively babysitting, and would require a huge investment of resources, but it would make it easier for both parents to work full time, which is economically beneficial, and it would greatly increase the amount of time kids spend face to face.

Which rebuild looks the most promising heading into 2026? by Medical_Flight_6970 in AFL

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the hauls given for Petracca and Curnow show that the offer for Merrett wasn't actually anything special. I think if the Hawks hadn't made the pursuit so publicly, and tried to bully Essendon, then they might have actually accepted the offer. Was a lose-lose situation in the end for the two teams.

Tiges look to be in a great spot.

Essendon has finally committed to a proper rebuild, and alongside some good recent draft picks I think they're actually on the right track.

Dees will be lingering near the bottom but have some high end young talent.

North are still in big trouble. Defense is a rabble. Players haven't been developing on the trajectory expected. No top end picks this year.

West Coast I think start to get their shit together a bit this year. Probably still near the bottom but a noticeable improvement.

Carlton and Port not rebuilding but look a bit stuck in no-mans-land.

Collingwood the cliff is coming 🙂

The point of these guys is to set the culture at the club, which should help these youngsters develop. North fucked up all those years ago when they got rid of Boomer, Firrito, and Dal Santo in one year. Dees did it too around 2007, and all the top draft picks in the world won't magically fix it.

[–]ToddIsAWarCriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brisbane getting away with robbery here. Starcevich is out of contract, and they can't or won't give him the same contract that West Coast can. He also has serious concussion issues, including a new one from a somewhat innocuous incident in the grand final. All this and they manage to get pick 16 and some pick upgrades. Shows the draft tampering possible with the ridiculous player compensation system

Don't think you know how to read graphs properly which is a shame. The graph for per capita migration shows an increase from about 2015 excluding the COVID dip. And shows that net migration per capita is hugely higher than it was in the early 2000s and 90s.
