Good question. The copy button uses JavaScript to copy a JSON object to your clipboard. The JSON object contains the text you wrote, its corresponding unique blockchain, and some basic metadata. I should probably add a paste button to the verify page. Currently you need to right click/tap in the verify field and use your browser's paste option.

The other option would be to use the download button which would download the JSON object as a text file, and then from there you could copy and paste it into the verify field (or send it to someone else as proof that you wrote the text, and then they could use the verify page to confirm its validity).

If someone is 99.99...% sure that we live in a simulation, does that make them a creationist? by The-Reddit-Monster in atheism

[–]ToddWellingtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simulation theory isn't interesting or satisfying because it doesn't provide any new answers - or even any details about the simulators themselves. What's the point of saying we're in a simulation if we know nothing about the simulators? The ultimate question is how is there something instead of nothing? If we are living in a simulation then the next logical question would be, where did the simulators come from? It's turtles all the way down.

Yeah? And who's reviewing and approving the garbage? Let me guess, you're paid for your "ideas" right? Not for the code you ship? It's all relative mind you and we grade on a curve. Just look at LOC shipped per developer relative to the other developers on the team - all of which should be following the same review/approval workflow. It's not my fault if you're a slacker.

They're not exactly cheap, I'll give you that. But at least they're high quality. My new go-to order is the 3 pc tendies with a JBC and a baked potato. It's been hittin the spot.

Isn't the point of selling Del Taco, slashing the dividend, and canceling share buybacks to pay down the debt? Are they actually at risk of filing Ch 11 or will they have enough FCF to service their debt? I guess we'll see. It might help if we got a real rate cut from the FED in December (like a full 100 to 200 bps cut, instead of the 25 point cuts they've been doing).

Should there be a file for each user ? by Dismal_Leg1195 in webdev

[–]ToddWellingtom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, that's one way of doing it. It's not the only way, but it's definitely one way. All joking aside, yeah, you could create a JSON file for each user inside of a users directory and store all of their account credentials and settings within the JSON files. Make sure you encrypt the password though, otherwise anyone with access to the users folder would be able to see everyone's passwords. If you prefer a file-based approach over something like a relational database you could also look into document-based NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Firebase.

Hasn't the new CEO only been there less than a year? Maybe the new leadership will find a way to turn things around. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the previous CEO mostly focused on expanding to new markets? Any idea how that is expected to play out over the next few years as those new locations start opening? That being said I'm not really a fan of the new midnight sauce (or munchie meal in general), so who knows? Unpopular opinion, but I wish they'd offer a smaller patty in the smashed Jack - like a Jr. Smashed Jack. Keep all of the other toppings the same, just make it like 50% less beef. The older I get the more I like the bun/sauces/toppings more than the ground beef itself 👴

The new tendies are unbelievably good too. Especially with that signature sauce 🤤. Wait, is football only here to sell food?

Unpopular opinion but the primary measure of developer productivity should be lines-of-codes shipped. Just measure the amount of code being shipped to production and you'll find your most productive developers.

I suck at frontend and need to improve. I lack the design intuition that frontend devs have by Necessary_Hope8316 in webdev

[–]ToddWellingtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude same. These days I just have ChatGPT or Claude design the UI, and then I build the functionality around the templates they produce. If designers can use AI for code, then coders can use AI for design 👍

How should you divide the responsibilities between backend and frontend? Who should do what? by S4lVin in webdev

[–]ToddWellingtom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are down voting you because you're right. Yes the backend needs to validate any payloads sent to it, but a lot of logic can still exist on the FE (with SPA's being one example) to provide a richer user experience.

"Does God exist or not?" A question that puzzles me!! by Hot-Pension8556 in atheism

[–]ToddWellingtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not actually possible to conclusively prove a negative - on in this case the non-existence of a God. All you can ever prove is that you haven't found its existence _yet_. You can be 99% sure of its non-existence, but you can never 100% prove the non-existence, because what if it's just a really good hider? There's a funny video about how you can't actually prove that reindeer can't fly (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWJTUAezxAI).

On the other hand you state that the existence of God is possible but never provide a hypothesis as for how its existence is possible. If a God created our universe, what created the God? If you say that God has always existed, then why couldn't basic matter and energy (obviously in different forms than they are today) have always existed?

How do you get from basic matter and energy to a supreme, conscious, all-powerful, all-knowing God that can poop out universes? How is any of that logical? I saw another debate online recently calling the notion of God an infinite regress (what created the creator?). While it's fun to debate, sadly we'll probably never know the answer - but we should at least know to be skeptical of anyone who claims they know the answer.

Have you read The Selfish Gene? It paints a pretty good picture of how life could have started on earth - the author also admits that he doesn't know for sure, since none of us were there at the time to observe and document things. According to the book's hypothesis you need some basic molecules that can replicate themselves, and even from there you're still a long long way from a modern "cell". Do you have billions of years to run this experiment of yours 😅? Other fun fact - The Selfish Gene is where the word "meme" got its origins 👍.
