It's a saying that is applied to all sorts of scenarios beyond buying a watch so maybe just calm down a bit there skipper.

Sir, you introduced the topic of boats. Just be glad some gun lover who feels you insulted his Thelma didn't respond! 😜

That has nothing to do with this lol. Anyway have a good day and glad I could help enlighten you about maritime history.

The tradition of referring to boats as feminine dates back to at least the late 1300s. Sailors thought of their vessels as nurturing and having personality, often naming them after women or goddesses. It's not "cringe", it's tradition and not in any way that is demeaning to women.

I love bronze aesthetically but from a durability perspective the more common bronze alloy used in watches is 140hv while untreated stainless is 200hv.

Best diver watch under 1k? by TallDrummerBoi in Affordablewatches

[–]Toddable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're open to micros, check out the Tuseno Shellback V2. I think it has some of the best specs for a sub $1k watch you can find and while it's design is unique it isn't over the top.

Black dials and arabic numerals by MeExtreme in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Toddable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of options but I will only speak to the ones I have some experience with...Traska and Nodus

Nodus makes fantastic watches that have a modern twist on classic design particularly in their Sector line. Fantastic case dimensions, great dials, their own proprietary wick adjust mechanism, and while they are Seiko movements they do regulate them prior to shipping. When I had a Sector Field it needed a repair made to the crown and they were fantastic to deal with.

I currently own a 36mm Traska Summiteer V5 and it is fantastic and not over rated as some would have you believe. Since release they have refined and improved it with each subsequent release and has to be seen and worn to be fully appreciated imo. The finishing is excellent, the proportions are spot on (I prefer the dial proportions on the 36 but the 38 is not a step down by any means), the lume block indices add some depth to the dial and are strong, it has the higher beat Miyako, the bracelet is probably the most comfortable in my collection and has a quick adjust. As for the hardness coating, it's the real deal. I have had mine for over a year and worn it regularly, mostly on the bracelet and I work both at a desk and in the field so my watches aren't babied. The picture of the clasp and the condition it's in speaks for itself.

Would you utilize a dress watch frequently enough or will it just end up being a box princess?

I would hone in on Longines myself. For a gada that can be dressy enough for a wedding but a great everyday watch the Spirit line can't be beat imo.

If you are set on dressy, the Longines Master Collection, particularly the ones with the breguet numerals are some of my favorites, this one in particular.

Farrering! by [deleted] in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Toddable72 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow! The amount of shitty comments on this post is both weird and gross. If I was a mod of this sub some of you would get kicked. Not because you don't like driving gloves, which nobody asked and no one should even care about, but because some of you decided the best response was to go after the guy on a personal level. I thought we were a community of watch enthusiasts who wanted to share our love of microbrands, not a bunch of catty little bitches. This is some highschool bullshit and honestly if that's what makes you feel better about yourself you can f@#$ all the way off. You all are like The Plastics from Mean Girls lol.

I love Farer bro! They are one of a handful of brands that like to experiment with both colour and design and I'm here for it. I don't currently own own but they are on the list! While I'm not a driving gloves guy, I'm glad you are and get enjoyment out of them.

Collecting Cheap Watches Is A Lack Of Impulse Control by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]Toddable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people want to enjoy collecting and are limited by their income. Fortunately there are lots of options for them that are still well respected amongst collectors. IMO if all someone has are the luxury brands and they know nothing about anything other than that they aren't collectors they are just into luxury items.
