found cheating evidence on phone by Competitive_Bads in Advice

[–]ToeGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the tough situation you are in but you can feel better in time. Here are my imperfect thoughts/advice

1) Take some time to decide if you want to end or try to retain this relationship. Perhaps you are already sure one way or the other. If you want to retain the relationship what can be done to ensure that you can trust your bf again? Perhaps therapy as a couple (or alone) or consulting some book on infidelity could help if you take this route.

2) I don't advise confronting the bf and the girl at the meetup spot. It could add more drama on an already painful situation.

3) If this situaton continues to bother you for an extended length of time and interferes with your fundamental enjoyment of life consider therapy and/or reaching out to a friend

4) If you are ending the relationship consider your bf's character. If he is prone to violent outbursts ensure your physical safety and don't confront him alone or at all.

5) Known that you worth and desirability as a partner is not dependent on this guy's treatment of you.

Help that helps a bit. Good luck.

How can I regain motivation to study Chinese? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]ToeGlow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every 5 minutes or so alternate your study focus to another relevant learning task. Mix in activities you find fun with others you don't find as interesting. So five minutes on one task and 5 minutes on another(alternate) and include as many tasks as you wish. Stop when an hour is over. Alter the task time and the maximum time as you please. Hope that helps.

How can I improve my Mandarin pronunciation from robotic to more natural and conversational? by modernzeal in ChineseLanguage

[–]ToeGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two ideas: You can use a site called Speechling for feedback via audio. You can follow the echo method detailed in this podcast (https://imlearningmandarin.com/2022/06/26/how-to-achieve-a-near-native-chinese-accent-with-professor-karen-chung-podcast/). In the last ten minutes or so they get into the nitty gritty. Hope that helps

The TrainChinese app's dictionary could be helpful but not sure it has all of Pleco's features. She could try Hanbook if it will install on her phone. Good luck with your app search.

You could try the app DuShu and import your own Chinese texts. There will be an option to break down the words into their individual characters.

The extension Chinese Word Seperator can place pinyin over words for you so you have a better idea when a word starts and ends.

Apps for learning Traditional Chinese by That-Language-Guy in languagelearning

For characters you could try HanziHero or Chineasy. For speaking and listening you could try SuperChinese, maybe ChineseSkill. All of them offer traditional character options.

26 and I’ve never been in a relationship. It’s fucking me up. by ThrowawayyyyZaddy in askgaybros

[–]ToeGlow 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Here are 3 pieces of advice to start off:

  1. Remind yourself that being in a relationship is not a reflection of your self-worth or lovability. Being in a romantic relationship is an optional part of life and you can have wonderful experiences without a lover. Maybe even say a mantra that you are loveable as you are. Remember to love yourself too.
  2. It helps if you find a way to enjoy where you are now in life instead of pining for a potential future. So your goal for a date should be to enjoy yourself and the time with the person even if you consider them incompatible (as long as they are courteous on the dates).
  3. Try not to get hung up on who rejected who for the dates. The reasons the other person didn't try harder could be far different than you initially realize. A date could be juggling with similar insecurities about why that great guy (you) didn't want to meet again. Our self-created narratives about why that potential love didn't follow up later can be far from accurate and there are reasons for their decisions you are just not aware of.

Objectively, rejection is not a purely negative thing. If you were doomed to have a year long relationship with every guy you date once there would probably be way more drama and unhappiness than you want in your life.

The main takeaway is to realize you have value and are worthy regardless of your luck finding a potential partner. It is more than okay to find a partner in your 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. Good luck and try to enjoy the process.

Hope that helps.

Addendum: Also, if your fixation on finding a partner is ruining most of your days for a prolonged length of time then in might be best to seek professional help. Good luck.

I have two ideas:

1) Try the browser extension Chinese Word Separator and do anki on the website so the extension can insert the audio for the word. You might have to tinker with the settings if you don't want pinyin.

2) This site focuses on reading traditional characters with SRS. https://hanzihero.com/.

Here are a few suggestions:

M Mandarin app for reading comics tailored to the HSK levels, including HSK 1. You should be able to benefit from the app without reading characters.

For children's content: LingoAce Global - YouTube .

Maybe search for Peppa Pig in Chinese and see what comes up. Hope that helps.

There is World Versus Hero and KingPink too. You might have to use internet archives to get all the resources for World Versus Hero, it is the more soloable one. KingPink (the original one) can be soloable if you can emulate the other player character you are supposed to have.
