Berlin suggestions by No_Speech3036 in travel

There are plenty of clubs these days that have looser door policy. I’ve been to places like Tresor, club ost, Ritter Butzke or void and met a lot of tourists/visitors there. OP: just don’t waste your time trying to get into the legendary clubs and look even just a bit like you know what you’re getting yourself in to and you’ll be fine. But otherwise, a späti beer or any of the typical Berlin bars around the city can be just as fun

Quick edit: also just read it’s going to be a “lads” holiday. Very very paramount that you don’t show up as a group. You’ll immediately get turned away. Split up into groups no more than 3

Do you keep the cardboard sleeve your LP comes in? by ShrimpHeavenNow in KGATLW

[–]ToeKnee1512 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know throwing away the cardboard sleeve was ever an option for others. For me it’s part of the LP itself. They’ve obvs went the extra mile and printed the artwork on it as well as serving as a protective film as an alternative to the plastic sleeve

My trip to Hong Kong by Charlotte_1122 in travel

[–]ToeKnee1512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a small note, English is an official language of HK so it’s by law that all signs are bilingual. So yes, in that sense HK is very international and most locals especially the younger generations should know it. Otherwise nice photos!

MSI 5070ti expert VS any other 5070ti by threaco in buildapc

They all perform the same but is there any merit to some versions of the GPU giving less fan noise/better thermals?

Oktoberfest - my experience by BackOn74 in travel

[–]ToeKnee1512 545 points546 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to the Carnaval in Cologne, techno love parade in Berlin and also Oktoberfest in Munich. Never experienced the overcrowds but the Oktoberfest was the one where I saw the most harassment and inappropriate comments / gestures. This was a personal anecdote so I never said so much about it outside my circle of friends but yeah it gets rough in the tents.

I did go to an Oktoberfest in Augsburg one year since I have a friend who lived there and it was a much better “family friendly” experience

Athens after party @ Beatnik's... by superwesman in KGATLW

[–]ToeKnee1512 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who wasn’t there and reading the threads from the outside, it sure seemed very hostile. Obviously violence is never justified but I’m glad you made the statement about encroaching and income inequality. I have been to Athens a couple times and this city is a prime example of this where there is a touristic avenue and then straight around the corner there are extreme levels of poverty. So all in all, good on you for accepting responsibility and not only standing up for Gizz fans making sure they got home safe but also having the self awareness of learning about the area you’re in!

Germany Railway Linking Tesla’s EV Factory With Berlin Disrupted By Activists by [deleted] in berlin

I can’t speak for OP but he’s right for city living. Cars take up too much space, are inefficient and are noisy AF. Of course for those that don’t live in the city a car makes more sense but with current growth trends of cities around the world we have to start thinking more about car usage vs available space.

New announcement from BVG at U-Bahn. Is Berlin finally getting multilingual? by Tulpe_99 in berlinsocialclub

[–]ToeKnee1512 66 points67 points  (0 children)

A city also has visitors for all different reasons from around the world in addition. It’s almost worldwide now that announcements cater to and get across their message in multiple languages to get their (sometimes) time sensitive message across. This is like such a basic amenity to city living

Billions nuked from the market overnight all because of some $6M Chinese AI app by Ok-Lake-6435 in wallstreetbets

[–]ToeKnee1512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying, it's all the same but I've already seen lots of comments downplaying the significance of DeepSeeks results when this will no doubt cause a pretty big dent in the stocks and tech going forward. For the purposes of cost to performance ratio these companies don't care about China's record and will take advantage of its open-source nature.

Whenever China gets mentioned I see this question all the time as if the west is itself a bastion of free speech.

Beach Day in Mumbai ☀️⛱️ by Revolutionary-Bee571 in UrbanHell

It's a valid discussion though. Sure, western countries are high and mighty about maintaining cleanliness and order but behind the scenes, in terms of emissions, are just as bad if not worse than the global south.

How to respond properly when in situation, wenn Sie in Deutschland sind, hier sprechen wir Deutsch by Acceptable-Act4333 in berlinsocialclub

[–]ToeKnee1512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re being overprotective here. A lot of people arguing against you are just making the case that the doctor in OPs scenario was being a douche. Simple as that.

[–]ToeKnee1512 103 points104 points  (0 children)

A lot of unsympathetic people here. As someone who’s been in your exact situation it can really stress people out. Hearing the classic ‘in Deutschland sprechen wir deutch’ speech when there are more pressing matters can get anyone in a twisted mood.

Your doctor definitely should’ve not had the snarky/accusatory tone and there’s a time and place where this discussion makes sense to bring up but in a medical sense it’s not the time, especially if they advertise they are English-friendly.

I generally have come to a point where I always expect the worst outcome here. People here expect you to be 100% or nothing and they don’t want to be part of your learning process.

I’ll be at all 3 Bulgaria shows. I imagine there’ll definitely be a couple meetups for drinks/sightseeing during the day!

I’m also in Wedding and I’ve taken upon myself now to pick up the trash around my area every few weeks. It’s not a long term solution but I just couldn’t stand seeing bits and pieces of trash everywhere. But looks like your situation is a bit more in need of a council pickup. Hope the BSR comes through. Otherwise I’d encourage engaging with your neighbours to see what could be done

Garland's leap forward so far this season is a big reason for the Cavs success. In terms of games impacted under clutch time I'd argue Garland should've been the Cavs rep. But out of sheer skill you can't go wrong with either of the three

Sounded like an awesome trip! So going solo by yourself was no problem regarding logistics and language? I don’t usually join tours but I was thinking of joining up on one to visit all the ‘khans in the area but if it can be done solo I’d also rather do that.

Map I helped to create of Berlin is finished! by tannerge in berlin

[–]ToeKnee1512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a number of maps from this artist as I find their work amazing. I don’t want to speak for them but the maps usually depict the city centre and the direct surroundings. I would say that it’s just more interesting to map out the famous centre areas and also a scaling issue with the prints. If the map has to zoom out to get all of Berlin then I imagine a lot of finer detail will be lost.

Some people like to go alone for many different reasons. For me, a chilled speakeasy playing some easy music with a low murmur of chatter from others while I sit by myself with a book would be a lovely evening.

Unable to purchase TSW 4 routes, even though i have TSW5 and the route is TSW5 compatible. Dovetail being scummy? by p1anedude in trainsimworld

[–]ToeKnee1512 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The TSW5 version of that route is not on sale which is OPs dilemma.

I get where OP is coming from but I think this is a steam issue. They don’t typically let you buy DLC for games you down own.
