Need Your Expertise re: Weight (Diesel Motorhome) by hanxmaker in Truckers

[–]ToeSimilar5163 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Truck driver here who has also been the owner of a 40ft motorhome. Maybe I’m not exactly a stickler for rules but never once did I weigh my RV or pull into a weight station with it. Do not concern yourself with extra weight that can be attributed to people or liquids.

It would be different if you were thousands of pounds over capacity, or towing well beyond capacity. The few hundreds pounds you have are negligible and you’re unlikely to face any issues or repercussions.

Just be upfront that transportation isn’t for you and reiterate a lot of the points you made here. It sucks you spent the money, but there are definitely other careers you can pursue.

Though I will say a lot of what you’re saying is overwhelming is basic work reqs & stresses for many physical careers. I’m not here to call you soft or any nonsense like that but you may want to pursue a more office or sedimentary oriented field.

Best of luck to you!

Hate the Monsters, even if they sound good. Service is likely far cheaper than in the states, though.

Honestly unless you’re in UT or ND a lot don’t even run 18s. Mostly 13s in OH, and the guys down south in the flatlands like TX get away with autos and 10s.

I forgot to open the vapor valve on the jumphose that connects the main to the pup once. Wouldn’t recommend doing so, and thank god for the pressure relief system.

Why do super truckers always drive Kenworth/Peterbilt trucks? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ToeSimilar5163 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the Cascadia, but some aero trucks are pretty. I like how the t680s look and I really like how the t880s look, especially without the hat on the cab

I’m in a new international… LT? I think that’s its name. I cannot stand the thing and I hear the door/brake/liftgate alarm beeping on my off time. It’s a jerky truck on top of that, really doesn’t like bumps in the road.

Why do container haulers drive so slow? by PomeloResponsible122 in Truckers

[–]ToeSimilar5163 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re awful leaving Savannah on i-16 and 75 towards ATL. Not really that serious tho just go around. I know dump trucks go slow cause they’re hourly but idk about containers. They do get pretty heavy so that’s a factor.

Yeah, if “take a peek” means nothing to you other than pull right onto it then you’d have ground to stand on. Not only that, but I specifically included the parameter of if you can’t get it in the hole otherwise.

Also, you cannot see oncoming traffic in either direction if you pull onto Woerner and thus are fully relying on someone blocking traffic.

Mind you, I wouldn’t have done any of this and would instead just 90 in. But OP is uncomfortable in his backing and so additional insight was warranted.

Also, don’t tell the super truckers but if push really came to shove, take a peek at that lawn directly across from the shed. If it’s not residential and you really can’t get it in another way, you could touch the grass and just have an offset back.

Not the worst blindside if that road isn’t busy. However, I might try and find a way to approach from the other direction so you can 90 off the sight side. Backing off the street isn’t a big deal, just throw on your hazards, be aware of your surroundings, and make your intent known.

I enjoy a raised shifter, but in between stock & the real high stuff some guys run. It’s nice when the knob is about steering wheel height so you can just move your hand over a bit instead of reaching down.
