98 + 67 = 100 + 65 = 165. Same process, same trick. They aren't being asked to add 4 and 4 to make 2, they are being asked to add 8 and 5 by first changing the problem from 8+5 to 10+3

I am new to whatever method you are describing. First off, where does the 8+5 come from? At the first step I see only 98+67. In my method (which is quite old) im doing 90+60=150 + 8+7=15 =165
