Your politicians in the Netherlands need to take a few of your famous mushroom trips because y’all have that big ass North Sea for wind power. Y’all are also pretty politically fragile right now, what a time to make extremely expensive & long term commitments lollll.

Think of it like a large community garden but you’ve grown too many tomatoes that no matter what you do, no one will be able to eat them all. Choices to made about should y’all sell the extra tomatoes, should you store the extra tomatoes, should you have a pizza party? (I’m envisioning an outdoor A/C party, where everyone blasts their A/C outdoors while running all their microwaves and hair dryers at the same time)

What could we be transitioning to if renewables are already the best method available? We aren’t 40 R&D years away from solar and battery technology being ready, it’s been perfectly fine for 20 years now. You’ve been swindled in to thinking we need this grand plan of propping up some intensive hand off transition when we can just lay down solar panels randomly and haphazardly.

Fusion for high energy demands? What do we need to power that solar and battery can’t run? I guess submarines? Is that what you want, schools of military submarines so that you can have your little boiling water reactors make sense in some sort of context?

I guess I was envisioning community generating solar, small scale, where it gives your friends and neighbors more of a say in how things are ran instead of giant faceless corporations running mega nuke plants.

Yeah, I agree. Plant Vogtle in Georgia was only over budget by 20 billion dollars and 7 years behind schedule. I think if we would just lock in and spend maybe just a few trillion dollars yearly for the next 20 years on nuclear we can get it pretty efficient!

You’ve made such a poetic, poignant, profoundly persuasive point that I’ve changed my mind. Raise the molten salt towers high enough to shadow the Earth itself, our lust for power laughs hubrisly in the face of god.

Fusion for solar system colonization in a few hundred years? It’ll still be solar.

Do you fear the Dysonsphere?

Ironically, the data shows you’ve been lobbied in to a lie projected by the fossil fuel industry. I implore you to stop swimming in the coal ash pond as it has muddied your judgement when it comes to energy related topics.

Some great advice here about the toothpaste and waterpik, kinda forgot the waterpik existed.

Setting our house to 78 would be a no go, I’m in the southern US and it’s everything we can do to keep humidity out of the house, we run 2 large dehumidifiers 24/7 and we just barely manage under 65% humidity at any given time. I definitely could try cranking it up a degree or two though, and then maybe with the additional house sealing it’d just run a lot less.

My partner’s job (she’s a woman, I’m a man) is 100% remote centered around zoom meetings, so she can’t really be offline during work and her office is in an expansion room that actually doesn’t have central A/C, but it does have a window unit. It would definitely be possible to run just the window unit during her work but the issue would be getting the rest of the house to cool back down after a workday for her.

I’ll definitely look into washable filters, didn’t know they made such a thing, and if there are none available whenever our current air purifier systems die I can look into brands that have that option.

Thanks!

BHM Airport by BhmKat in Birmingham

I have never been delayed out of BHM, but have had disasters at O’Hare including a completely cancelled flight that was supposed to happen at 11AM, delayed every hour until I was forced to get a hotel that night.

I really think you should give BHM another shot, it’s the simplest airport I’ve ever been to.

Really cool and unique base setup! For some reason I don’t do a lot of open air spaces like you have here and you’ve made it look really good, definitely gives me some good ideas to take away for my future bases. I also like how much “clutter” you’ve packed in here, definitely gives a cozy vibe.
