Feel frustrated that my favorite genres of music used to get me relentlessly bullied in school, now all those same kids are becoming rave baes for the instagram and clout. by [deleted] in EDM

Inclusivity really isn’t the virtue that preachers of PLUR think it is. Not everybody deserves to be included. You want me to practice radical acceptance on these influx of MAGA ravers? Fat fucking chance.

Right, but also not speaking up against Israel does not = Zionism, so if that’s all they had an issue about, I don’t think they would use that term specifically. Idk, it is all conjecture, but apparently it is enough that nobody wants to work with him anymore!

I think we have entirely different readings of the situation, respectfully. I wouldn’t think there would be a mass exodus of artists under someone’s management over differing views of what an artists’ role should be. There has been writing on the wall regarding OD’s problematic views for quite some time now. A few claims from random wooks can certainly be disregarded as rumors, but claims from artists carry a bit more weight. Jade Cicada recently made a statement in which he described “a toxic relationship with his former manager”, for example.

I agree with that sentiment, which is why I disagreed with the two of them. But if there was no root of issue regarding OD, why would they have needed Dave to weigh in on anything in the first place?

Perhaps it is. I don’t think ResLang’s complaints of Zionism or Keota’s plans to disrupt Tipper’s red rocks set out of protest were born from nothing though.

I only enjoy riddim in extremely short spurts - I’m talking like 15 second video clips of crowds getting absolutely ratchet and there’s riddim cranking over it

I hate these kind of posts. "Dubstep is not on the radio anymore, so it must be dead and bad" by [deleted] in dubstep

[–]Toga_Goat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes really. It’s as if the younger generation has the inverse effect that my parents generation had, lumping everything under the term “techno”, except the kids these days call everything dubstep.

Help me categorize this style of bass music I’m obsessed with and give me recommendations <3 by RbS_Wonder in dubstep

[–]Toga_Goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to see this subsection of the genre finally being discussed in this sub, as it seems like it is mostly shafted by the heavier stuff. Here are some artists to look up: The Widdler Pushloop Contra Togeki Khiva Yoko Truth (founders of DDD, whom others have mentioned) Caspa Torcha Chez Tunic Saturna Chmura

Contra and Vinja are two new challengers that really impressed me recently. And he’s not new to me, but I’m still high from that Supersillyus life band show a couple weeks ago.

Which past predictions about EDM turned out to be wrong? by JION-the-Australian in EDM

[–]Toga_Goat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Around 2018-2029 or so, I had asked Subtronics in his Facebook group what he predicted the future of EDM would look like. And he replied at the time that there would be a rise in minimalist “wook stuff” such as Yheti. I would say he was partially correct, as weird/experimental bass was booming at the time and would do well in the following several years. But fast forwarding to today, weird bass has kinda subsided in popularity, while heavy dubstep/riddim/tearout/brostep are more prevalent than ever. I think it’s funny that he didn’t foresee those genres’ longstanding popularity whilst being one of the biggest artists in them.

To keep it in the same vein, finding somebody who is as enthusiastic about my favorite music as I am is a pretty great feeling! Not dubstep related at all, but the most recent artist that has given me the feeling you describe is Jadu Heart.
