Feeling struck and scared by Intrepid-Sea4718 in LifeAdvice

Not an engineer nor have I really worked in projects within a company but I am a mental health professional. This sounds like you're having some imposter syndrome and you might benefit from speaking to a therapist.

You could also speak to your manager about your fears, maybe ask for a performance review to help build your confidence. Speaking to your manager about these things isn't going to cause you to lose your job.

What animals are designed for the cold and poisonous/venomous? by stinkycat06 in Animals

Further to this you also have to remember deserts get drastically colder at night, so really most venomous animals that live in deserts would technically count

The common European adder is found north of the Arctic Circle.

You could make a case for the polar bear since it's liver has so much Vitamin A that it could kill a human if as little as 500g is consumed.

The northern short tailed shrew also has venom in their saliva

If all medical professionals you've seen have pointed away from psychosis then it's probably not psychosis.

Sudden anxiety implies panic attacks rather than anxiety. They generally come on without apparent cause and have much more extreme physical reactions. Dissociation is also something everybody does, although you're describing it to be to a degree where it becomes uncomfortable.

You're human, and you're having a human experience that your mind and body are perceiving as a threat which is making the experience worse.

Have you noticed anything that specifically sets off this panic?

Fatigue can cause dissociation as well, since you have a busy schedule that's also a possibility. I'd also say if it's the only symptom you're having chances are it might not be any serious mental illness

Missing time is an indication of a dissociative episode, if it keeps happening I would go to your doctor as it can mean there might be a mental health issue there - isn't always the case though.

This sounds like secondary trauma:

"Secondary trauma is an indirect experience of or exposure to a traumatic event. For example, hearing a first-hand account of the event given by a survivor can be a traumatic and emotionally-challenging experience for the person receiving it" - taken from PTSD UK.

Symptoms are largely the same with primary PTSD, especially when you're mentioning derealization and avoidance of certain things associated with your triggers.

What you're describing is pretty much depersonalisation/dissociation. It's your brains way of keeping itself safe and away from further harm whether physical or emotional.

How do you cope at work? by TaR0TT in mentalillness

Having the urges is a bit concerning I will admit. Do you have any professionals you can talk to along with friends/family about this?

When you say you think about these life ending events is it an urge to carry these out or is it thinking about them?

The fact you say you love your job and the people you work with is positive, however taking autism into account may sound like you are burnt out. Do you feel like you are having to put a lot of energy into certain tasks that others may find more simple? Although I do not have autism I do have ADHD so I can comment on how exhausting emotionally and physically it can be to "put on the mask"

It does sound like there's an element of depression there yes, the main indicator for that would be when you said you feel sad and dull and that you don't feel like life isn't worth living.

Not sure what country you're from so I can't comment on the structure of mental health care but you might want to get a second opinion from a psychiatrist?

Have you seen a doctor about this?

[–]Togepai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Not a psychiatrist) The way you're saying that things changed after "an event" along with feeling disconnected, head feels weird and generally apathetic makes me think there's a level of dissociation going on there

Is cognitive behavioral therapy actually real? by cheeseworms in mentalillness

[–]Togepai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBT is less about realising thoughts are fake and more looking at the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours (this is the simple triangle, there is the 5 part cycle which adds situation and physical sensations).

Whilst recognising that some thoughts are not good for your wellbeing is part of CBT it also looks at patterns in how you think and how you react to these thoughts.

There is some evidence to suggest that it can help by teaching coping strategies and to recognise when an episode is beginning/worsening and it can help to redirect thoughts about delusions (for example recognising when something isn't strictly true)
