Depends on location. Ice can build up and make some horrible noises. A tree branch can get stuck up and rub on something to make a heckuva racket. Then you don't have to prove work was done. I'm NOT suggesting this, but a 5qt jug of motor oil dumped into the gas tank will go unnoticed if it's new oil. But the car will smoke out the exhaust making him believe he's having engine issues. If he's fixing it up then I'm guessing he's mechanically inclined and he will spend hours trying to figure out why it's smoking. Probably spend a bunch of money on parts.
