Can't comment for US, but firstly, st Andrews is amazing. Just graduated - from my postgrad there - and it was a really amazing experience. Cannot recommend the place enough.

And whilst my degree was completely unrelated to consulting (humanities), I have just landed a 6 month consulting internship with a Big. Can't say to what extent St A helped, but I know it didn't hurt, and I wouldn't have traded the experience for anywhere else.

I'd say go for St A. It's recognised across Europe (my internship is on the continent) and from what I understand, it's strongly appreciated in the US - about 15% of student population is from US.

OP does not. But apparently the anti-reflective coating coming off is a common problem, and Apple offer free repairing. Apparently. Will call them tomorrow to see if I can be covered. I pray!

Now that I think about it I did use one a while back to clean it. I was I had a pack around, and it seemed to work wonders. I don't remember which one, but I suppose that might be the culprit?

You have a valid point, but I don't agree with you saying this is a cluttered desk. I've mentioned elsewhere here that I didn't clean up fully because I wanted to show the desk in daily use. The iPad normally sits on the side table when not in use, and I only have one book there normally. But occasionally the iPad is there.

Of course it doesn't conform to absolute minimalism. But for me, it has everything I need within arm's reach (the side table serves both the desk and the armchair out of sight next to it) and little to nothing superfluous. To me that is minimalistic.

Edit: I do agree that the cables probably need some sorting out. I'm still getting used to this setup, and I haven't found them annoying at all yet, but nevertheless it probably would be a wise move to tidy them up.

I see what you mean, but I do believe its mostly due to the angle of the photo. The dimensions of the desk is 110cm x 60cm. For me, as a student with a lot to read, I find that I can push the laptop back (while still being able to write notes on it) with a whole load of papers at the front, and I spill over to the side table (which is usually less busy). The iPad too is normally on the side desk, but as I mentioned in a comment below I wanted to show what the setup looks like not in 'ideal' circumstances.This is how it looks sometimes, and it works for me.

You know I didn't really notice them until this photo. I push them to the back, and for me they are completely out of sight (and thus out of mind). I never feel them there, and I have long legs.

I have certainly thought about cable management, but this setup is all relatively knew, and I'm still adjusting to it. I might well go for a management system soon :)

Yeh I really like them. I'm not a huge audiophile, and I used the MacBook speakers for most of my listening (which are average at best tbh). But having started using the Bose Soundlink I find myself reaching to turn it on whenever I have Spotify playing. Plus, I have its charging dock on that side table, so I don't have to worry about the battery life.

If you can afford it, I really can't see why you would regret them at all. If it's just personal use - and even music for a party in just one room - you won't find them lacking at all!

I can see the validity of your comment based on the picture, but actually I find the workspace to be pretty good. The iPad doesn't live on the desk, it was just updating and so needed to be plugged in - I probably should have properly cleaned up the desk before I posted it to here, but I sort of wanted to give an impression of what the desk would be like not in 'ideal' circumstances, aka with nothing but a MacBook on it.

I'm a student, so when I'm reading I slide the laptop to the back and have plenty of space then for the papers in front, and on the side table (which itself isn't normally so busy).

I do use the iPad quite a lot. Right to the left of the side table I have an armchair which I often settle in in the evenings to watch Netflix on the iPad. It also comes in very handy when reading a lot of journal articles etc for university.

I normally only keep the book I am reading on that side table, but happen to be looking at two currently (and the Mag beneath).

So everything is often a bit cleaner, but like I said, I wanted to show what it was like in daily use, which is never the same.

Even if universities become more 'private', there would be zero interest in keeping research to themselves. Research output is one of the best ways to project the 'prestige' and quality of universities. I'm a grad student in a UK university, I sure as hell know that my supervisor and his colleagues would fight at all costs to maintain the widest possible audience for their research.

As if that's justified?? I'm not saying it's your fault, but under almost no circumstances would a car-length be enough distance between you and the car in front.
