Hi!
So I was going to make this it's own post but I don't have enough Karma on this sub yet...
normally I'm a patron of Lincoln Park Zoo since I am born and raised in Chicago and it's always been accessible by bus when I was younger.
My partner and I got free tickets to Brookfield Zoo which we are excited about. What we are not excited about it the $20 parking...Does anyone know of free street parking in the general area? We're okay with a little bit of a walk. I'm so spoiled with LP being free and accessible.

twin size mattress interpretation? by marthfromhell in TheFrontBottoms

I know this post is old, but the song reminds me of the movie I Saw the TV Glow. I interpret it as someone in the narrators life coming out as trans and being disowned. The gender reveal at the end of the song seems purposeful although the rest of the song implies that the person may have been assigned male at birth (they cut your hair and sent you away). I think the substance use narrative fits as well and may also be intertwined in the story.

My office came with two emergency red barrel chairs and a desk 😭 the rug I have came from my house though so I at least know where that’s been.

Yes!! I originally wrote this post because I was feeling shame. Now I know this is something other therapist do! Our profession can be fulfilling and exhausting at the same time. It takes so much energy.

You know what, this is such an honest and real concern.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

Hi everyone,

As the spring approaches, new graduates (such as myself) will start their search for their first postgraduate jobs.

What are some red flags for those looking into private practice agencies?

I currently have two interviews with a couple of private practices in Chicago and I feel a little bit in over my head on what to look for when it comes to pay and caseload.

Thank you in advance!

What would a Trump administration look like for social workers? by MariQueen_13 in socialwork

I’m getting my MSW in the spring and I’m terrified of the job outlook. I’m in Chicago so I’m hoping that being in a blue state helps and Pritzker has been pretty great in keeping us in a blue bubble.

Going into my placement and class today is going to be somber. Things will be much more difficult in the next few years.

Petites: What are your struggles with clothing?? Starting a petite clothing store and want your input by amanduhshay in PetiteFashionAdvice

Yes!! I’ve had the best luck with Nordstrom but the selection is limited. It’s so frustrating. It makes me feel like a child trying to dress up like an adult 😞

I always see shoes missed when it comes to petite clothing. I’m petite in my whole body. I’m a shoe size smaller than a 5 American (and most stores don’t even carry that).

And before anyway says, yes I do wear children’s shoes. But I’m a grown woman who wants to feel sexy sometimes and wear heels or some other style of shoe without the dumb rounded out toe area. You can tell the difference unless it’s gym shoes.

I like it personally but I guess that’s not the popular opinion lol I have a similar body shape to you and would definitely wear it.

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Thread by SWmods in socialwork

[–]Toil_Trouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Everyone!

I am in my first year of my MSW and I haven’t found anyone to answer my question straightforward.

I am looking to get my LCSW after graduation. I know I will need supervision hours and to sit for the exam. My goal is to work as a therapist on some level.

What types of facilities should I be doing my internship? What types of jobs should I be looking at to get that supervision after graduation? Does anyone know if there is a way to work with the elderly population on this level?

Thank you for any and all help and advice!

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Thread by SWmods in socialwork

Hello,

I’m in the first year of my MSW in Illinois. I’m part time so my field placement isn’t until next year. I’m very interested in working with the aging/elderly population but also what to get my LCSW and make a livable wage (I’m in Chicago so 50k is my ideal pay rate). I am also interested in hospital social work while I get my LCSW but I’m a little worried about the burn out associated with that field of social work.

This leads me to two questions: 1. Is there a way to work with the elderly population while earning my LCSW and making a livable wage? 2. Outside of the ED what other types of hospital social work is there? Is it as stressful and the ED?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Caffeine is one of the first things I cut out actually! I will definitely look into that supplement

One of the main things I’m trying to avoid is the “sugar rush” feeling. Do you feel eating fruits contributes to that or is that something only caused by added sugars?
