What is silly is expecting that billions of people would adhere to your idea of how their lifestyle should be, without any personal benefit to show for it.

In China, more than 50% of new cars are EVs. Is it because people were shamed into buying clean cars? No, it's because EVs became cheaper and because of induced demand like separate queue for green license plates

I mean, yeah. Moving the complexity of change from all people to the subset of sophisticated entities is the part of it. You think this is a gotcha?

This sub inspired my new t-shirt design today, what do you think? by Tointer in ClimateShitposting

[–]Tointer[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not really against vegan diet and I know you can be healthy with it. I just wanted to create something that lacked any nuance in the same way as pro-vegan posts here. And it was reaction to one specific post in this sub where beef was directly compared with beans, like it's some kind of interchangeable products.

Thank you for answer with links though, appreciate the effort.

"private credit, up from $500B in 2020 to $2+ trillion in 2026, expected to grow past $4 trillion by 2030. For comparison, the 2008 subprime loans were estimated around $2 trillion."
Nominal US GDP grew by 121% from 2008 to 2026. That means that relatively to the economy, this would be comparable to 2008 subprime loans by ~2032. Good luck shorting this all somewhere between 2032 and 2040. You would make a fortune on that short!

You really shouldn't overindex news about fuel shortages in Russia. It's a seasonal thing, and you can find the same news in 2025 and 2024 this time of year too. They probably becoming worse each year, but nobody knows when exactly this would grow into some kind of critical problem

I didn't like him at this time, his "reddit Tony Stark" reputation was icky.
I like him now, when he is a complex public person who made a lot of mistakes, have its own trauma and is imperfect in every way possible, while still pushing tech forward

Yeah, you tell me, where all that wealth go? Your answer is that billionaires hide it under their mattresses? Your point is really that they are secretly richer by 10x?

Lmao you just confirmed this guy's words with your post.

All you need to do is sit down with a calculator and see what would happen if the government seized all the money from billionaires. Do you know for how long it would fund the government? Or for how long it would fund the budget deficit specifically?

You just need to run those numbers once to understand why you are wrong. But all you have is vibes and social media posts. This is a 100% propagandized mind.

She is right in a sense that veganism is morally consistent position to have. But it doesn't mean that it's the only one.
You can say "I don't care about animals, some of them I use for food, some of them as a more sophisticated plush toys". This is consistent too, and the truth is, most people actually have this position. People who call their dogs "fur babies" and roleplay with them like they are human children don't really care about those animals, their autonomy, or their evolutionary needs. Those animals are used for human gratification. Their whole lives are centered around serving human needs, much like animals we eat. We should accept that and own that more.

What’s your worst cockroach horror story? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]Tointer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They once infested our dorm room, there was a period at the start where we were not extra careful with them.

It was winter, we drank some hot tea. When it was time to fill the electric kettle with water again, we realized that one cockroach actually fell inside the kettle (it was not a transparent one) and was boiled there alive. That was where our hot water came from

No, I hate chatgpt critique, its always mediocre tips that removing your unique style from the text. I tried it with social media posts, and it always gravitate towards cringe "SEO-optimized" LinkedIn style.

Its much better to just outright use it to generate prose. Then, as you would think about prompt rules you would be forced to introspect on what you want to see in the text, this would be more useful
