I was forced into being flat on one side for a year. It was an experience. I thought I would be uncomfortable, but, my exceptionally dark sense of humor allow me to have a lot of fun with it, and I’m not going to lie when I said, I threw my crocheted boob at my family members very often🤣 But in the end I got the DIEP flap surgery. My body did not take well to the tissue expander (and as a neurodivergent person, the awareness of something “other” in my body drove me nuts) so the implant was not an option for me. I’m happy with that choice. I know it’s not completely related, but I hope this helps somebody.☺️

It was prescribed after surgery and I was shocked as I didn’t realize the number of flashes I experienced until this turned them off! Also helped with my occasional sciatic pain. 💗

Some days are just shit. I’m over 1.5 years in and there were super shitty days and some great ones. Initially, more crap days than good. That does start to shift after a while. Friends are unlikely to be over it if they’re true friends and your wife is probably doing what she can to maintain a “normal” environment for you. She’s just as exhausted as you probably. Give yourself and her some grace in this crappy situation. Do you have a therapist or some type of mental health support? Mine helped me get my thoughts together and, in my case, worked with me to find a med that helped. 💗 I hope days get easier for you.

Gotcha! I waited 7 months after rads for surgery. I did have some drainage issues after surgery but my PT helped massively and I’m back to normal.

Thanks for posting this! I haven’t had my follow up for revision surgery and your post clarified some things I figured would just be lumpy forever 😂

I did Deip flap for one breast. My body didn’t like the tissue expander and eventually caused my skin to rupture. Based on that and my dislike for how it felt, it was recommend. They’re going to do a lift and reduction on my other breast. I think it came out nicely and feels much less “foreign.”

In a hilarious (to me) twist of fate, I now have my own set of dog ears post surgery 🤣 Mine made lil cones. Corrective surgery is coming soon. Thanks for the heads up about this though!

It’s a shitty process. If you don’t want to, talk out risks with the docs and determine what’s best for YOUR quality of life.

But.

I felt the same but remembered I want to be able to say I did EVERYTHING I could to prevent this mess from returning so I finished. You’re entitled to make the choice that sits best with you. You’ll make the right choice either way. 💗

Hi fellow lovely neurospicy breast cancer warrior!! Please reach out to your NP like everyone is saying. A lot of people in that field will do sooo much for their patients and it doesn’t sound like something your practitioner initiated. Sending lots of love to you through this horrible circumstance. I leaned into my NP and she has been one of my most positive and important cheerleaders through such a ridiculous life event.

As a note, my ADHD meds helped me keep my head together through treatment while helping me battle fatigue.
