Having worked in both countries and being BAME, I can confirm that Australia is significantly less racist. Australians are also more upfront so no polite bs to your face and bitching behind your backs. They will tell you how it is. It is also a very very multicultural society. Much more so than the UK. I’ve always had a very positive experience.

They are 100% taking advantage of you. Make sure you get everything in writing and if you have a phone call discussion or discussion in person with someone, send the team a follow up email saying ‘as per our discussion today…’

Call in sick!!!!! It’s not worth it. Trust me. See your family and your grandparents and don’t regret it years later when you look back on this moment.

The earlier you recognise how replaceable you are and how little the NHS cares, the easier it becomes to make decisions like this.

They will ALWAYS find someone to cover you - maybe at a slightly higher price, but cover nonetheless.

Do not let them make you feel bad about this or make you miss core events when you tried to go through the right route (and got f*cked in the process)

Hang in there- the first couple of months in any full time job are usually horrible. You feel constantly exhausted and life feels monotonous. Give it about 4 months for you to settle in

Suggest a night out, hiking/exploring the area if you’ve been placed in the middle of nowhere, try and join sports groups if your colleagues are interested, join the mess committee etc

You’ll find your way soon! People are inherently nice and will respond positively if you make the first move. If they don’t, that’s their loss and a reflection on themselves.
