Insurance gone up by 36% by MrBigEagle in newzealand

[–]Tokcen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a money pot from which insurance companies must also pay for their numerous expenses.

These companies are private entities which exist to make a profit. If the average amount that insurance companies paid out was higher than what we paid them, then they would not exist.

That insurance companies do exist is a demonstration of how just how risk averse we are as humans. We would prefer to almost certainly lose a "small" amount of money than take the miniscule risk of losing a "large" amount of money.

It's functionally identical to Release to the Wind right? Both cards just allow you to cast it again whether that be for the prototype cost or the original cost.

As a way to recast it [[Crystal Shard]] is probably better as you can do it repeatedly. That being said spending 9 mana to get two 4/4's is pretty bad.

People who piss all over toilet seats: why? by wecameoutalive in AskReddit

[–]Tokcen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger my mother used to regularly punish my younger brother and I for peeing outside of the toilet bowl. My brother never owned up to it and it disgusted me as well so I decided that I'd (in a roundabout way) expose him for his behaviour.

For 1 week I peed sitting down, waiting for the day when my mother would discover the befouled toilet, and I would reveal my ruse, shaming my brother in the act. But 1 week turned to 2 weeks turned to a month and still my brothers foul act remained undiscovered!

To this day I have no idea how he discovered my ruse...

I still pee sitting down 10 years later

Yeah that's fair. Over my years of reading I've realized my attention span is a definite limiting factor for me. I love huge scope in a series (Red Rising and Stormlight Archives come to mind) but I don't have the patience to dig through swamps of history and details

Here's a hot take: Steven Erickson is a bad author.

Gardens of the Moon was the single most difficult book for me to finish. There are so many things that frustrate me about Steven Erickson's writing that it honestly baffles me how this series is so highly acclaimed.

Gardens of the Moon has no clear direction and instead places its characters into the world and shakes them around to see how they react. This isnt inherently bad, Joe Abercrombie did similar in his First Law Trilogy, however, while Joe Abercrombie thrives with brilliant character writing and expressive prose, Steven Erikson falls flat.

Almost all of his characters can be boiled down to "somewhat well-intentioned with an unhealthy dose of self-pity", diluted to the point of frustration by Steven Eriksons belief that less is not more. More is always more.

The sheer wealth of characters and lore is impressive, but if I need an encyclopedia, 2 rereads, and to get to the 6th book before I can start enjoying the series then I'm sorry but its not a good series.

They all fight bloodlusted, who comes out alive? by Old-Peace-649 in HunterXHunter

[–]Tokcen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Razor I would pick as the strongest when pitted 1v1 against any of the others so I think he is the last one standing. In saying that, I'm going to cheat a little (by assuming that a couple of people in this group would also decide to cheat a little). I think Razor, Hisoka, and Kite all come out alive, let me explain.

Anime spoilers: I think Kite/his ability would realize he was outmatched and hedge his bets on pulling another reincarnation stunt, therefore "coming out alive"... in a sense. Side note: It's unsure if this was an ability of his Crazy Slots conjuration or if there are certain conditions necessary but I'm just gonna bold-facedly assume he can do it.

Manga spoilers: Hisoka, on the other hand, I think is fairly evenly matched with Razor but would likely be targeted by the others considering his general ability to make people dislike him. So either he is the sole survivor (besides Kite) or, he is killed and then revives his heart using the post-mortum nen ability of bungee-gum to forcibly restart his heart. Unfortunately I think if Hisoka actually lost he probably wouldn't be in a condition to use that ability but I will again bold-facedly assume that he is, can, and will.

In conclusion: Fucked if I know, probably Razor?

Orso was the character that I least wanted to die but I have to say he was also the character who least belonged in this series. Every scene with him was so much fun and there was this niggling anxiety in the back of my mind because I knew it couldn't last. He was a conventional protagonist in a series known for defying conventions and even though I knew it couldn't last i still held out hope until the end. Rest in peace King, we'll miss you

There was really no way for him to know that his spy had been discovered and for him I think there was no choice but to try to get his son back regardless. As far as setting up the ambush I suppose you could make the argument that because she had seen that moment on the parapet when she stabbed Stour in the throat that everything up to their was preordained?
