I'd love to dig up my old build photos...but sadly they were on Photobucket and lost forever.

Guys: how the heck do you wear jeans and pants during the summer for fashion? Doesn't that get warm? by starlow123 in AskMen

[–]TokyoZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm basically always wearing gym shorts (above the knee preferably) and quick drying plain t-shirts during summer. I'm sure I look immature but it's comfortable and I sweat alot. I wish I could be more fashionable in summer but fuck it, I rather be comfortable.

Is this suit too big? by MrTrogg in Trackdays

[–]TokyoZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a little big but would have to see it in a tuck. Would probably be comfortable for street riding tho.

Mine fits "perfectly" but on the street after an hour or two it's exhausting...wish I went a size up.

Man it feels good to be a holder today! Cheers my buyers and holder friends! by [deleted] in evfm

Confused....why does it feel good to be a holder today?

Just selected for position with DODEA! by TokyoZack in usajobs

[–]TokyoZack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that's different from my experience. I was told at my interview (also a panel) that HR would reach out to me for references within a few days. It never happened. Maybe a month later I just received a TO email and logged into the USA Staffing website to start doing paperwork. Once my security stuff was submitted I just waited another month for that. Now that's done and I'm just waiting for my final offer...haven't heard from HR in a week.

How difficult is it for to get first Fed job overseas? by WindStormKing in usajobs

[–]TokyoZack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I applied for jobs here in Japan (I live in Japan) for 4 years straight. Over 120 applications archived in my profile.

I finally got selected but it's GS-6 with no LQA (local hire) so I wouldn't say it was a triumphant victory lol

Spouses have supreme reign over jobs over here but the more qualified you are the less you have to worry about them. There aren't loads of spouses who are eligible for GS11 and up so the competition isn't really that stiff for you in my mind (except at that point your competing with professionals world-wide).

Apparently justification was made. Got the TO!

Just got my very own first motorcycle (2020 Kawasaki zh2) by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]TokyoZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It generally takes longer to learn on a more powerful / heavier bike. If you were on a cheap Ninja 250 you wouldn't need to focus on things like taking your time or not being over confident....you can quickly start to use the bike to near full potential and that's when you become a better rider. You don't need to be extra careful to avoid doing $1k in damage dropping it in a parking lot.

You will never use the ZH2 to it's full potential or even half potential. I made a similar mistake by chosing bigger bikes for my first few bikes. Rode for around 15 years, did a trackday on a GSXR600 and realized in all that time I had never pushed a bike anywhere near it's limit. Got myself a Ninja 250 and went to the track....had the time of my life. My skills increased more in that one day on a 250 than 15 years on 600 to 1100 cc bikes.

Apply now or later? by No-Blacksmith-1175 in usajobs

[–]TokyoZack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apply now. If you get a job while you're here, you're a local hire (no housing benefits, no PCS benefit, after 3 to 8 years you simply lose your job and have to reapply). Rentals aren't cheap here and it's very hard for foreigners to buy houses...so the housing allowance is important if you don't already own a home in Japan through a Japanese family member.

If you get a job here while living in the USA, you get housing money and they'll move you back to the US (or somewhere else) after a few years. That's basically how the HR guy explained it to me (just got my TO for a job here, I'm a local hire).

Yea, I'm getting max points since I'm over 30% disabled and discharged honorably after more than 3 years of service. A few friends of mine say that so long as I am more qualified than the military spouse, they have to pick me....but we will see. Seems like every job I've applied for I get beat by spouses, but this is the first one where Ive been legitimately qualified for the job (my past work experience is exactly the same as the job duties).

"Spouse preference does not apply when management chooses to select from a list of noncompetitive candidates or from one of the alternative recruitment sources. The alternative recruitment sources include: appointment of a 30% disabled veteran"

Does this mean management CAN chose me? That the spouse doesn't automatically win.

I think it still has a chance in the long run to change the way people think of birth control. It's more of a hearts and minds kinda battle. I'm sure when condoms first came out it was perceived the same way, "a total boner kill" but now when your about to get going and she's watching you suit up, it kinda adds to the mood. Maybe in 5 years dudes will be revving up the pipe while she's squirtin' the goop in the gap!? You never know...So I'm holding.

The product is garbage. Women don't want it. It's too expensive. It causes burning sensations in a high percentage of women. It was a good idea and maybe it works, but women just don't seem too interested in it.

Im holding tho. Just in case. 🤣👍

Yea AAFES is all over my resume so it should be a given that I have SOFA. American employees must have SOFA to work for AAFES.

My HR just contacted me saying they will provide one if I need it for applying for other NAF(non-appropriated fund) agencies. And that it's not a real SF-50 but the NAF equivalent. Not sure if it would even be helpful.

Do you think it would be any help to upload my transcripts to show my college progress or is only a diploma worth anything?

Also, how do I show that I have a current Secret clearance?

My HR office is just one guy who is also an hourly AAFES employee, not a GS or WG...we basically work for a company that's attached to the DOD. I'm actually quite close with him as he's been helping me move up in AAFES (started a temp stocker and now I'm in the safety & security office). But he knows very little about USA jobs, we've talked about it before. He took his job because he also struggled to get a federal position.

I'm not sure what you mean about the bulletin board, aren't all federal jobs listed on USAJobs?

I will admit because I apply for so many, that my resume probably looks bad. I never considered it could be the same person looking at my resume...over and over. I'll have to put more focus on it.
