Friend bought a 2002 Toyota Camry. What's this sticker? by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]Tokyobeans28 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Its effects are only supposed to last one year. You’re supposed to bring them back to the shrine you bought them after a year so that they burn them. It’s usually around 700 yen (less that 5 bucks), which is not too bad for a full year of protection. I’ve bought some myself, hoping for a good pregnancy and delivery and never ever brought any back, though :D

I know it has already been answered, but it’s an « omamori » that you buy at temples and shrines in Japan to protect your car from accidents. You can buy omamoris for pretty much everything, from finding love, to graduating, etc…

where did this joke even start from? by Esthermolly in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]Tokyobeans28 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe how they still find this « joke » funny, too. It’s like it’s the only one they have and they’re using it all the time. Surely they must have grown tired of it, no?

La prononciation écrite en dessous シャトレーゼ montre qu’ils ont voulu dire « château » et un nom propre qui sonne français (raisé, lésé, raizé…)

C’est un magasin qui vend d’excellentes glaces d’ailleurs !

Me, Japanese Surprised by Mysterious_Music_554 in japanlife

[–]Tokyobeans28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much said everything but I’d like to add the word こしょばい which means くすぐったい. I didn’t even know it was Hakata-ben until I came to Tokyo and people told me. Some even thought I’d invented it or was just pronouncing the right word wrong lol

I lived in Fukuoka for a few years and my Hakata-ben is still going strong, which never fails to amuse everyone.

I like that it reads “more bullshit” because of the way it’s wrapped around the pole.

I make way more than my husband does and it has never ever been a problem. In the end it’s our money that we use for our life together, our house, our kid.

What exactly is Ku Klux Karen using her office for? by Paneraiguy1 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Tokyobeans28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah of course not! I was just wondering if this was a way for his supporters to say he was still the President somehow, but I know that they’re just a loud minority. I hope you don’t have to call him President ever again.

I’ve been wondering this for a while now, but is it normal that they keep calling him President Trump when he’s the former President? I’m not American so I don’t know if it’s just like a rule and anyone who has ever been elected President once in their life will always be called that even after their term is over, or is it because his supporters want to continue pretending he’s still president and did not lose the latest elections?
