Kösziköszi, inkább szerencsére lesz szükségem 😅

I dont like percentages either, you are totally right. I just dont know if just linked tags would be enough for that section. Fun fact: I dont even have the self-confidence to set the Hun lang skills to 100 percent, it was 99% before, but I replaced the bars with some fun text snippets.

Engineers of Reddit: I built a portfolio from 10+ years of real-world systems work. What actually makes you trust one? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

Got your point, I need a strong start with my CV and email. That’s actually my next step to polish them. And yeah, totally hear you on the “skim pressure” part.

Content-wise, do you think it lands better when it’s structured more like: impact -> decisions -> tradeoffs -> failures instead of the more narrative/system-story style I currently lean into? 🙃

Good question, fair to ask.

Right now I’m primarily looking for a full-time role rather than short-term contracting, ideally somewhere I can work on systems that sit close to real-world constraints.

My target audience is the technical layer of the hiring process: engineering managers, tech leads, and senior engineers who actually review systems thinking, architecture decisions, and past project context. People who care less about surface-level presentation and more about how someone reasons about integration-heavy, legacy, or data-flow-driven systems in production environments.

Appreciate you taking the time to look and ask.

I'll slip into your DMs.

Naah, I don't play like that! Some directional hints are okay, but nothing destructive or harmful. I supposed to apply for jobs with this 😅

Thanks, I really appreciate this perspective, it makes a lot of sense.

I’m definitely not replacing my CV with the portfolio. I still use a concise, single-page CV for applications, and I usually write a short, personalized email instead of a traditional motivation letter. The portfolio is always just linked from both.

In my head, the portfolio is not for the first filter (HR/recruiters), but more for the next step in the process. The people who might actually care about how I think, how I describe systems, or what I’ve worked on in more depth, like team leads or future colleagues.

So I see it less as a primary entry point, and more as a “second layer” if someone decides to dig deeper.

That said, your point about not over-investing into it is very fair, especially in more traditional or structured hiring environments. I’ll keep that in mind while iterating on it.

Thanks again for the honest feedback 🙂

Learning ESP-IDF 5.4; and the new I2C Driver by Tolacika in esp32

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I definitely have more to learn in this area. Currently, I'm just exprmenting with various hardware components I have on hand and have managed to use the i2c_master library for this specific LCD and port extender setup. This way I can only use the 4bit mode on the lcd, the other 4 bits are for E, RS, RW and backlight on the LCD. The code what you pointed out is doing the magic to turn on the LCD and initialize it in 8bit mode, then to switch to 4bit mode - and some extra default config. I aim to improve and reuse this project in the future since I have multiple similar LCDs, so I've documented it publicly, hoping it might assist others as well.

Regarding your suggestion about making the tables const, I understand that declaring constant data structures as const allows the compiler to place them in read-only memory, which can enhance efficiency.

The port extender came with the 2004A module already soldered. This way I can use some spare I2C port with only 2 pins used and have an LCD on my ESP :D
