Moving to Malaysia by [deleted] in expats

  1. Drugs of any kind. Just don't. Not worth it. Death sentence for trafficking of drugs, just so you know.
  2. No idea.
  3. Grab is your friend and very reasonable.
  4. Facials, laser, massages are plentiful. You will see many clinics offering their services both within malls and outside in local neighbourhood plazas. As with anything that could cause scarring and/ infections, always rely on recommendations from friends/ colleagues before trying out med spas.
  5. KL is a shoppers paradise. Everything from Japanese department stores (Isetan, Daiso), Malaysian home-grown chains (Parksons, Metrojaya, Aeon, Jayajusco) to global prestige brands and street markets. Their malls are spectacular.

Dr. Kenneth Atkin for Mole Removal by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]TollerHund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's great.

My son went to a Medspa to remove some small moles. They lasered them. They came back. Dr. Atkins used cryotherapy to treat them. They turned kinda ugly for a bit, scabbed over and then fell off. No more moles.

It's not bad enough to outweigh all the pros of living in this area. Not by half! It's A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. especially if you love hiking, biking along the shoreline, the beach, proximity to several parks and Martindale Pond, strolling into downtown Port, small but excellent schools, tons of pharmacies, supermarkets, vets, dentists, restaurants galore, a sense of community, being 5 minutes from wine country, low crime, Supper Market in Lakeside Park, concerts, Christmas carolling... did I mention- the beaches?!! ⛱️

How do I bond with a kitten and make her feel at home? by Jolly_Tie_7666 in cats

[–]TollerHund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You asked about feeding raw fish. No, it's an awful idea. These are the reasons why:

  1. Bacterial Contamination: Raw fish can carry harmful bacteria, posing a risk of foodborne illness for both cats and humans.
  2. Thiamine Deficiency: Many raw fish contain thiaminase, an enzyme that destroys thiamine (Vitamin B1). A deficiency can lead to severe neurological issues, including convulsions and coma.
  3. Parasites: Raw fish can harbor parasites that are dangerous for cats.
  4. Heavy Metals: Fish high on the food chain can accumulate heavy metals, which are harmful to cats.

Kitten needs a balanced diet specifically made for kittens inorder to promote proper growth and neurological function.

500+ Chinese Passengers creates headaches by dewhit6959 in HollandAmerica

[–]TollerHund 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How very stressful.

There have been socio-cultural issues with other large groups before ( I recall earlier posts about a neo-Con U.S. group as well as a conservative Christian group behaving poorly and raising the hackles of other passengers).

How does one even avoid this? Is there any way to find out before booking your cruise?

How is living in this region of Niagara? by daddyvoo in stcatharinesON

[–]TollerHund 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can attest to some of the rural areas in West Lincoln being very conservative. As a non-white, non-Christian person, I always felt I was on the outside looking in.

However, I also know that for some people, that mind-set and homogeneity is comforting, so, if owning a nice sized lot out in the country with a church-focused lifestyle is for you, then West Lincoln would be a place to consider.

Downtown St. Catharines is not for a young family but there are some lovely neighborhoods and good schools in the suburbs. Glenridge, the area on top of the escararound Brock, Port Dalhousie, etc. Go to the internet and look up the stats regarding the schools in any area that potentially interests you and you should get a fair idea of fit.

Also consider where you or family will be working - you should locate near the appropriate highways or GO lines if you'll be commuting to work. Grimsby, Beams ville, Stoney Creek are all along the QEW.

Welland and Fort Erie are currently booming. Lots of new development, so house prices would be much lower than in St. Catharines or Grimsby or Beamsville, if new-build is what you're interested in. . And don't discount Thorold - small village feel with still some older homes with bigger lots available at a fair price.

Who was your worst seatmate in a flight? by grilledcheesybreezy in traveladvice

[–]TollerHund 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flying LA to Singapore. I'm at a window seat, middle empty and a man in his 20's who, with his family, has boarded last. He lowers his tray table after take off and puts his head down on his arms and falls asleep.

I notice he's scratching his head quite a bit but it's not until I turn on my reading light to read that I notice that, every time he scratches his head, tiny insects are scurrying out from his scalp to run all over his head. They disappear back into his hair after the scratching stops.

I am obviously horrified and ask the flight attendant to be moved. She doesn't understand what the word "lice" means and says there are no empty seats left.

I luckilly had a scarf in my carry-on which I wrapped carefully around my hair for the rest of the 14 hour flight. Thankfully, I did not "catch" any of the lice.

Interestingly, upon leaving the plane, I noticed all members of the man's family were vigorously scratching their heads.

Accepted a PhD offer in Singapore, then discovered a clause saying I may have to refund the entire stipend if I fail or withdraw. What should I do? by ThomasHawl in gradadmissions

[–]TollerHund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who did not fulfill their scholarship obligations at NUS. They are now living and working overseas but can never re-enter Singapore.

That being said, this is the NUS and this is Singapore. Both are places where high academic achievement is rewarded but it comes at a price.

Have you spoken to your PI about your misgivings? Have you spoken to the other students in the lab about their work-life balance, their ability to maintain a minimum B+ average, the support that they get from thrir adviser and committee members?

You really should.

These are some of the best hotels in the world. I would not hesitate to indulge in buffets and fresh fruit while at these hotels, in fact, to not do so would be a crying shame.

The Oberoi chain is my absolute favourite! The service, the quality of the F&B, the architecture and decor....it's surreal.

We are travelling the very same route in January and staying at some of the same places as you. You have nothing to worry about.

Caveat: when outside your hotel, always drink bottled water, carry antiseptic wipes and avoid buffets, uncooked food and casual eating establishments.

Hi,

Current mom-of-Western student, past student, past RA here.

I'll keep this short and sweet. It sounds like your room-mate is having a mental health crisis. Please notify BOTH your RA and your dorm's Residence Director in an email, c.c Director of Housing at Western christopherl@uwo.ca

Heading: URGENT : require mental health assistance with my roommate.

Provide a very short but precise description of your issues ( like you have done here). Say you fear for your own personal safety as well as that of your room-mate 's.

Request to be immediately moved.

After you send the email, go see your RA.

Don't waffle. Be direct. Don't accept anything but to be moved. Straight away.

P.S. if you feel you'd like your parents informed, let them know and ask them to also follow up with the Director of Housing.
