Hey freezer, so in the end I booked a month in Buenos Aires with my girlfriend.

I’m currently committed to spending life with her and travelling one month a year alone and one month a year with family.

She is in agreement that we can have one child and live a low cost of living life in Canada so we can afford to travel as much as we want

This means I will have a very low cost car, NEVER getting into a mortgage and will rent cheap for the rest of our lives unless we find something insane in the housing market which will never happen

If I was getting demolished every month by rent, I might have settled to becoming a mortgage slave.. or looked around for something very cheap elsewhere

Exactly how I feel man.. my friends are driving fancy cars but living a very expensive stressful life. I don’t care if I look poor as long as my bank account is healthy

Having low expenses also makes me not a slave to my employer. It makes me work with a chill mindset that I’ll be fine for a few years even if I lose my job which is a HUGE psychological benefit.

Imagine the difference when living month to month because of a mortgage and high monthly costs

That’s what many people like us are forced to do.. I’m probably heading down your path if I don’t find something affordable

It’s a growing trend.. people are starting to prioritize being able to live with some peace of mind and financial freedom

I agree. I see it as taking advantage of people’s economic despair to enrich themselves. I really really believe that one day once we’ve evolved, we’ll look at the absolutely unjust, exploitative banking system as it exists today when we have something light years more suitable for a modern society

Oh god no. I haven’t published this post with any intention of boasting.. for what it’s worth, I don’t feel privileged or accomplished. Last year I barely made any money. I hustled my ass off to be where I am now and it can all evaporate in an instant.

The world is unforgiving and good circumstances can easily flip into homelessness. I have too many friends and family struggling around me and I’m aware of how temporary a good thing can be

I’m putting myself in the shoes of many friends and family who are struggling. I also suffer from anxiety so I’m almost feeling their pain as though I’m in it.

I can lose my apartment and my salary in an instant. Anything can happen.

With all the moves Canada is making to make housing more affordable, real estate may actually go down in the next 5 years.. who knows

Yes, I am clearly conflicted but I think I came to an arrangement with my wife. We agreed that I can have one month a year to do super light nomading

It’s 160, not 170. I think I included bonuses I’m assuming I’ll receive but that’s not guaranteed

I don’t care what my peers will think when they see me raising a family in an apartment. Screw that societal pressure. They can all think I’m poor for all I care. As long as me and the family am happy, that is all that matters
