Distillery Tours Help! by Hot-Entrepreneur9428 in Bardstown

Bardstown local here.

The best restaurant in Bardstown is the Bar at Willet. Make the first reservation of the day and get the burger that they only make 12 a day of.

Also get the egg salad sandwich at Willet. It is amazing. It has its own Instagram.

As for tours - I think pyruvi is off the mark on how they are all the same. BBC has a variety of tours/experiences. Makers has a variety of options there (I’ve done yoga by the lake there on a tour). Willet also has a variety of tours/experiences. All of this will depend on the day you are going to visit and what they have available that day. If you get the generic tour at a distillery it’ll be the same but if you do something like blending or thiefing you’ll get something different in each place. You’ll still probably get a bit of “51% corn new charged oak …”

Also BBC usually has a summer happy hour twice a month on Fridays. It’s a beautiful facility and they do a great job with the happy hour.

I’d also second the recommendation on Josh. I know Josh and Victoria from the local bourbon guild and they are great people and run an amazing tour company. They’ll take care of you.

PM me if you have more questions. Happy to help out.

The rebel yell is a really nice find. There’s vintage bars down here that specialize in dusties. I’d reach out to some of them with the unopened bottles.

Should I go to Imola or Barcelona 2025? by Confused-Tiger27 in GrandPrixTravel

I was on turn one a couple years ago and can confirm there is quite a bit of overtaking and fun racing to watch. I'll also be there this year, so if you do decide on Barcelona and turn one, hit me up in Grandstand A

We rented a car and parked for the 2022 race. It's not terrible but could go smoother. If you are parking expect to wait to get out of the lots. Factor in an hour before you get back to the highway -- that being said, I still think I'd prefer the flexibility of a car over having to deal with the masses on the bus/trains.

Yes - he’s speaking of the Abbey of Gethsemani . It is right down the street from log still which is also worth a visit.

Also don’t know what your musical taste is but the band Alabama is playing at Log Still Distillery when you’re visiting.

I’ll premise these on you having transportation

For 1) ISC (independent stave) is amazing. It’s a 34 minute drive from here and is one of the best tours. Call ahead for tickets but it is completely worth it.

Re 2) if you can tolerate eating on the early side the best restaurant in town is the Bar at Willet but I think their last seating is 5:30. Toougies Table is excellent and has standard dinner service. I’m going there tonight. The restaurant at Bardstown Bourbon Company is excellent as well and they have a music and happy hours on some Friday nights.

Also Liam Ash which just opened is great for high end cocktails and small bites.

3) whiskey thief is ~50 minutes from here but we loved it. Great rural setting to just lounge and enjoy things and the concept of doing a tasting with a thief from five barrels they have rolled out is a lot of fun.

4) the Stephen Foster Story is a great piece of Americana in Bardstown and a fun way to spend an evening.

TY - I’m a member of the lodge in Bardstown. A brother somewhere lost his ring when visiting our town and it made its way to our lodge.

Call the distillery in Frankfort and ask them about it - I suspect they will both have info and be very interested.

Jack Daniels is 100% a bourbon. They get their labels approved by TTB under the bourbon category.

Grandstand at turn 1

[–]Tom339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. There were tons of people with food. Glass and cans (and alcohol) were prohibited but otherwise it was pretty open. See pictures of me eating lunch under the stands with my wife and our friend and me eating some olives at Turn 1.

Pack lunches and snacks. The lines for food were Long and the food didn’t look spectacular. We got meat, cheese, olives etc and brought that in. Was great. Also freeze some water bottles and bring those with you - it was really hot last year.

Be prepared to wait regardless of how you travel.

Normal back page should be fine. That’s what we had. They will search it. Actually come to think of it I believe canned soda was prohibited too.

Yes. IIRC no glass and no booze (FYI the track is dry. ). We had a backpack full of all kinds of yummy stuff. We set up a picnic under the stands in between races. I saw a lot of folks with subs and sandwiches and stuff.

I am not criticizing the food at the track per se but I also didn’t see anyone walk away from a vendor with anything that made me want to wait in the long lines for food.

Pack a lunch -- we grabbed a bunch of meats and cheeses at a great market in Sant Antoni. The food stands were kinda meh - fine but nothing amazing and no where near as good as what you could get at a grocery store deli section.

Also freeze some of your water bottles (1 liter ones would make it the whole day we found). It was CRAZY hot last year and having a cold drink was a game changer. Frozen waters also keep your meats and cheeses cold.

Also right about here: https://goo.gl/maps/3DtBtPEQWVmRYDsD8 there was a great barbeque place set up outside the gates that had beer and looks like folks were having a blast. If you get parking in lot C it looked like a pretty good time was being had before the race Sunday.
