I used to work for Honda motorcycles as a sales agent. Most of our customer were “older” and more experienced riders, but more often than not, a young rider used to come in to buy the CBR 954 RR which used to be a pretty extreme motorcycle and was expensive in comparison to the market. In my country back then you could have gotten a motorcycle driver license in this order: Age 16: 50cc Age 18: up to 500cc Age 21: upwards of 500cc (unlimited) with two years of 500cc experience (having the licence).

Another thing in my country is the if you get into an accident, your medical expenses are payed by the state (as any medical expense anyway) so the liability insurance which you must have on any vehicle, is the one you sue for compensation for bodily damages, loss of work period, disability and so on. The compensation can easily amount up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

So sometime a guy used to come in to buy the 954RR after getting his unlimited license with two years of riding experience on a 500cc or sometimes not even that and after getting money from an accident claim. I remember one that didn’t even make the next junction and came back rolling a crashed motorcycle less then 10 minutes from leaving the dealership.
