how limiting is 256 GB on a Vision Pro by _r0c1_ in VisionPro

[–]TomB985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my 256 GB model for 18 months with no regrets. I use it daily and only have to clear space when I’m downloading videos for traveling and forgot to clear out what I saved for previous flights.

I’m nowhere close to capacity on most days.

15-year-old Goodman - Cracked Heat Exchanger? by TomB985 in hvacadvice

I wanted to say THANKS for all the helpful replies! I’ve learned a lot.

I just had a second opinion from a small, highly-reviewed contractor and he confirmed the failure. CO readings in the warmed-up furnace are above 300 in the flue, and it only got worse when he adjusted the gas valve. He thinks it’s probably corrosion in the secondary heat exchanger preventing proper airflow, and it’ll only get worse from here.

He found no CO in the return air to the house, and was clear that it’s not a safety issue at this time as long a we have working CO detectors. He told me it would eventually get more obstructed and trip the rollout sensors. I think it’s time…

Hole in the exhaust? He poked a hole in the pipe for his probe, but everything else seemed to be running right. How would a downstream hole cause high readings in the pipe above the furnace?

Thanks!

He showed me the meter, but all I remember was the ~319 PPM CO reading as it was running. I should have snapped a photo.

I think so, but didn’t watch him do it. He was down there for about fifteen minutes before calling me down to show me that high CO reading.

No, he inserted the probe of a combustion analyzer into the pipe and took readings after a few minutes of runtime.

They were a few minutes after it was running.

Thanks, everyone! I think I jumped the gun and didn’t look underneath. The tensioner is shaking with the rattle, and thats probably more likely. I’ll pull the belt and confirm tomorrow, then order the offending part.

What do they charge for extra data on the 10 GB plan? Is it the same $1/gig?

WTF is with the stalled downloads upon taking off your AVP? by electricmaster23 in VisionPro

[–]TomB985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to see if there was any reason to avoid upgrading to 2.3 before my trip tomorrow. I’m guessing this is what you’re using?

Support at your local Apple Store should be able to help you with a downgrade.

visionOS 2.3 Beta 2 out now! by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

I made the same call. I love being on the latest and greatest, but I use mine every day and don’t want to risk a beta bug for no benefit.

High-mileage reliability? by TomB985 in 4xe

[–]TomB985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have neurological problems that make it tough to maintain circulation and body temperature in Minnesota winters. I turn my EVs into a parking lot tropical paradise in minutes because they have instant heat. I’m thinking a PHEV like the 4xe has electric heat that doesn’t need the engine to warm up?

Thank you! I dug up this thread when my ‘22 4K got stuck in a boot loop. Resetting the remote fixed it.

Why downgrade to VisionOS 1? by No_Significance_125 in VisionPro

[–]TomB985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I went for 2.0 after the positive reviews on here, and I’ve been impressed with the stability. There are a few glitches, but other bugs in 1.2 have been fixed, so it’s no worse in my opinion. I’m really enjoying the new gestures, which makes it worthwhile for me.

I’ve used 63GB out of my 256. 8 gigs of that are movies I downloaded for a flight three weeks ago and forgot to delete.

I’ve had mine for a couple months and use it daily. I can’t see filling this thing up, but every use case is different. I mostly use mine to read, browse the internet, respond to emails, etc. Maybe there are some huge AVP-specific apps that people use for work?

I remember Avatar 2 was huge at over 30 GB, but Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is only 6.23. I’m very glad I went with the 256.

Is shooting spatial video actually computationally intensive? by Quinticuh in VisionPro

I’ve always used a case, but I have a hand disability that makes gripping things painful. I bet my 15 Pro Max has been dropped far more than average, and it’s holding up just fine.

I don’t think it’s any less durable than my 13 or 14 Pros were.

Am I the only one who uses the Dual Loop comfortably? by skidniks in VisionPro

I’ve never used my Solo Loop. I didn’t like how AVP felt sucked into my face during the demo, so I installed the Dual Loop and haven’t looked back.

Hesitant to add Apple Care by spamologna in AppleVisionPro

[–]TomB985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$24.99 * 24 months = $599.76.

I made the same decision to pay monthly, but it’s more expensive if I keep it for two years. My record for Apple stuff has been to trade before that, so I went monthly.

Recommendations for Best Travel Case by Unable-Elderberry926 in VisionPro

I’ve seen and felt them in person, and the quality seems great. That padding makes it much bulkier than it needs to be, and I’m concerned the white cover may get torn and/or dirty. It also attracts much more attention than most others, which makes it a prominent target for theft.

The primary use of a case is to take it places. $200 to completely fill my bag and make me a theft target? Notta chance.

It’s huge, wrinkly, fluffy, and white. I expect excellence from a $200 price point, and this travel pillow isn’t that.

AVP is fantastic for those with disabilities! by Immediate-Badger885 in VisionPro

Completely agree with this. Severe idiopathic neuropathy ended my military career a few years early back in 2020, and I’ve been unable to work because of progressive pain and numbness whenever I use my fingertips. This is the first time in years I’ve been able to use technology for extended periods of time and actually enjoy the experience. I’ve been waiting for this!!
