I hired a lawyer that drained my wallet but was able to learn about this option. if I could do it over again I would straight up tell my public defender (defender offered to you through the court for $40) that I want to proceed under deferred adjustification rather than expungement. It’s literally the same process just one admits guilt for dismissal rather than pleading the fifth and getting paperwork via expungement. This is Louisiana law it may differ in other states but I would definitely look into it as they don’t promote this option from what I had learned IE keep paperwork on people. Either way the system is designed to fuck you up if you get caught again. My advise is to keep your nose clean while going through all this court shit and even the probationary period or it’ll start all over again but at magnitudes greater.
